I have an extremely accident prone ISH and was thinking of getting her some of these types of chaps when she comes out of horspital next week!

Can anyone recommend any in particular? I was thinking of the Equilibrium hardy chaps, but I am open to suggestions :)

The thing that concerns me is what happens in the summer? Are they too hot to use?

How much use have YOU got out of this type of product if you use them?

Thanks!

I have used the Equilibrium ones on my pony before, although I used them to prevent mud fever rather than bumps and bruises and they worked very well for that. I am hoping to invest in some for my TB this winter, as he is prone to being dosey with his feet and getting mud fever. I do think they would help protect her legs but possibly not as much as thicker boots. I would recommend them, they do the job well they fit and wash well. Sorry I have never used them in summer so not sure how warm they would get.

I too am on the lookout for turnout boots. I've got a TB (racehorse) who has no common sense, no social skills and hasn't caught onto the Graze Craze yet, bless him, but he is fresh off the track so i'm sure the penny will drop soon.

And since his legs are match-stick thin, i'd like to make sure they stay intact!! Not too worried about them for mud fever as he detests getting his feet wet! He hops through the muddy patch in the field!!

I may well settle for brushing boots but I do know Robinsons do a proper turnout boot which are reasonably priced and encompass the fetlock too and shouldn't rub, even when wet, although that isn't gospel as i've not used them.

I had the equichap ones (equilibrium) they stayed in place and I even used them for ridden work. Never got sweaty but I only used them in winter. We didn't have deep enough mud for me to know if they'd stay on in thick mud but I was impressed all the same.

I've had the equilibrium turnout chaps before and found them an expensive waste of time. Despite making sure they were the correct fit, the still slipped down/turned round/came off and actually caused a nasty rub on one of the horses legs that caused it to blow up like a balloon. I've found good quality brushing boots better for turnout to prevent knocks.

Have used the Equilibrium ones and the Sportabrac ones and I think the Sportabrac ones give a much closer, snugger fit and are easier to put on, they are also cheaper. I used to have two sets, one for him to wear whilst other set drying or being washed. Hope that helps.

The biggest problem with equichaps that don't fit, is that people just don't seem to measure the legs right.
If you want protection from bumps and scrapes you could also try the equilibrum training wraps or the flex and stretch wraps. But again....measure twice to be sure they are going to fit properly!

Depends whether you want them for mud fever or turnout protection against knocks & bumps. People often use the wrong boot for the job.
Equilibrium do 2 different types for 2 different jobs
Hardy chaps are better for protection against kicks & treads as they are thicker neoprene & close contact chaps are better for helping prevent mud fever & they are breathable.
Castle do the old Sportabac boots & you can see them all here - http://www.dragonflysaddlery.co.uk/...subcatname=Therapy&categoryname=Boots&nocat=y
