It's time I replaced my manky old hacking jacket since it's looking really tatty and doesn't fit any more anyway.

So... I could do with some recommendations for nice tweed competition jackets please :)

I had a quick look in Countrywide the other day but I didn't like any of theirs. Very heavy, pretty shapeless and the colours were a bit too dark for my liking (I think they were Dublin). I'd prefer quite a green tweed, if that makes sense.

I'm quite little - 5ft4 and size 8. Would like something that fits nicely. I won't put a BP underneath it, I don't mind putting that over the top if ever I wear it (TBH I'm only likely to wear my BP for XC so wouldn't be wearing my jacket anyway). So, something nicely fitted that still has room for movement. I'll do a bit of cubbing/hunting in it, DR, SJ. I don't particularly want to break the bank but equally wasn't keen on the cheap ones in CW (they were around the £60 mark).

What does everyone else like? I think the one I have is Harry Hall but it's getting on a bit now. Thanks :)

I bought one of these at badminton (down to £70 from £100 I think?) Fits alot nicer than in the photo's, I also went for the mustard-y colour rather than the green one. The 10 fitted like a glove & was gorgeous but on a practical scale went for the 12 so I could actually move (usually helps when riding).
Did look at various caldene ones which were gorgeous but over my price limit, that said considering I don't have a horse to compete or hunt at the moment £70 was probably too much, lol.
Ebay had a few but I've found with jackets they all fit differently so unless you can find a make/size you already know suits you it may not be any use but worth a look

I have a Dublin Cambridge i think it is. Pale green tweed with a bright blue thread running through it. I'm 5'8, long body and big boobs and it fits beautifully. Paid 70ish for it

I have an Alexander James - love it, well worth the money.

Thanks, had a quick look but the budget won't stretch that far unfortunately :(

Some of the Caldene ones look quite nice, but the only one I like is the keepers tweed which looks a terrible fit on the model. But maybe they didn't give the model a jacket that was in the right size!

Ooo... Tweed!!

I have a few now- I like a nice shape too- I have had three Tagg tweeds- one now sold but the green based one is lovely, it has an orange over check that goes with the ginger section D- apologies for the pants pic, it's the one I can best see the shape of the jacket.

I've just bought Gunner a new one, as we may end up doing riding horse rather than hunter... So that's a Mears, and a nice shape too-

I don't think I've ever bought a new tweed... Mine are eBay or FB adverts, as long as they're in show condition! Good luck!

I did quite like the look of the Dublin Cambridge but on the website, it looks awful on the model, really baggy and shapeless. But it sounds like it looks better on?

I love the green one in the top two pics! I'd quite like to treat myself to a new one but I do like a bargain... :) A local-ish saddlery has quite a large second hand section, including loads of jackets, so I will pop up there for a nose.

ETA - there are a few in good condition on Ebay. how do you find their sizing?

Take a look on the Horsegossip Forum - yes, it's a Showing forum (don't faint) but you will find lots of quality second hand tweeds there for under a £100 if you're lucky.
You can google the tweed colours if the seller has said Pretty Ponies Tweed no xx or Le Beau Cheval no 48, etc.
If you are very petite, I'd recommend a Maids fitting in a proper show tweed jacket as it will fit you much better.

I have a Le Beau Cheval tweed - yes, it wasn't cheap but you can tell that a mile away, the quality, cut and fit is superb. If you could stretch to one of theirs you'll not regret it.
Janet (owner) will measure you and sit you on a saddle to make sure the cut, length and fit is just right.

Happy hunting :)

I am 5'8'' and the Caldene fits me nicely. I wouldn't want it any shorter but I am paranoid about bumfreezer jackets!! It is longer than katastrophykats

I have a caldene tweed in green herringbone that I bought second hand on ebay it is great. Plenty long enough for me and I am 5'8".

The DH forked out rather more for a M2M from Brocklehursts. It is beautiful, fits wonderfully and sits well as he rides. It was worth it as he struggles with off the peg sizing.

I had a Shires tweed which looked very smart and fitted well. Cost about £70 I think...
