1st Intro/BE90 of the season, great times 12.40ish dresssage so not a mad early start. I was super organised so just had to load up in the morning, and get going.

Got new hats tagged and walked the xc before dressage.

DRESSAGE - warmed up ok not great stiff and resistant on the left rein, always his bad rein but never that bad, anyway managed to scrape a 37 despite rather tense left rein work, but a fab perfectly square halt 1st time ever!
(physio out on thurs to give him the once over)

SJ - walked the course and paced out all the strides, found markers where I was going to steady and re-establish the canter or change leg. Looked pretty meaty as the 1st event of the season seems to. Warmed up not great some french guy had hoiked the jumps up really high, and was having an argument with the collecting ring lady so did a few then came away.

Clear fences 1,2,3,4(planks)5...then thought "oh im clear" lost all concentration and let him run on too much cue flat jump and pole down! made it through the double then had 8 and 9 too!!!! Total rider error as was going great, should only have been a 4/8 fault round really. Need to work on concentration levels!

Lots to like from the sj though, and much improved from last year!

XC - my fave! looked like a nice course quite up to height for Intro. Soap must be getting the idea now as he was bursting to go out the start box, so nice to feel that.
Very bold and fab round, steadied up for the short bull finch 2 stride double as lots had been having a run out their, perfect. Did the corner on top of the hill, locked on and flew. Fab the rest of the course, galloped to the finnish to end on 4.36secs opt time 4.33secs so just 1.2 time pens. Really pleased as is a twisty course and only 9 in my section got round in the time.

Finished on 50.2 which placed us 19th out of 40 and his lowest total score ever! Really pleased with him

Carrots and hugs.
Compared to his last intro last season it was an improvement of
2 marks in the dressage, and 11 faults in the sj, and another clear xc under his belt, so pleased as we are shaving off marks here there and everywhere

(Aim is to get him going clear sj, which in our section on Sun would have placed us 9th)

CC ON THIS PLEASE...
Here are my pro pics see if you can tell from them which jumping phase I like and which i don't!!!!

I bought the sj one really as a training aid for myself. In it I am not in a great position, stirrups look too long so leg too straight, looking down, and tense across my shoulders and arms so not giving enough. Compare that with the xc positive riding, looking ahead, good give, weight in heels - different rider!

So needless to say I will be showjumping showjumping SHOWJUMPING!!!! for forseable future! Any tips on sj exercises very much apreciated

Off to LARKHILL next, can't wait

Your position isn't AWFUL in the SJ one!! You have a secure lower leg in it, and your toes are pointing forwards! (better than mine fo' sho' !! )

I think it looks good and I love your XC colours

good way to start season, and i think you know what you need to do. More sj course jumping, so you ride course instead of looking like bunny caught in headlight

But lovely to see

In the SJ you look as though you are trying too hard, the XC you are enjoying yourself.

I would try putting your stirrups up a bit and think about sliding your bottom back and folding to stop you standing and compressing his shoulders.

Beware of posting pro pics here, it's not allowed, you have to use links.

That's a good tip, i will give it a go. I don't think I really thought about my stirrup length tbh, they go to 4 for xc but were on 5 for sj, looking at the pic I was quite shocked how long they look. When I'm shorter I find it easier to fold and give so maybe that had an affect that I didn't even think of with so much going on!

Argh I didn't know you weren't allowed to post pro pics! will post links in future or maybe photobucket links to the pics i have bought and scanned is that ok?...

Sounds like you had a good day!

Nice pics - agree with the bunny in headlights comments on SJ, and that XC seems much easier.

As for the pics though, no, technically you only bought that piece of paper, not the electronic data so you should not scan the pics in and store them on photobucket. I did notice that some photographers are now selling the electronic data available on their website instead of the paper copy, I personally think that that is the way forward.

(Agree btw about the photographers selling the files instead of the pics, I have already bought a couple this way and I think it's the way forward too).

Really well done on your first outing - it's lovely that you're improving already. Don't be so hard on yourself re SJ, it's possible to be picky and see faults but really your position is pretty good anyway - sometimes we can try TOO hard (and don't I know it!)

Congratulations on a great day and you know exactly what to work on to get even better results next time. Love the XC pic it's a corker!

Daft isn't it?... I would put him to almost anything XC ditches, corners hugh big scarey jumps happily, but to see a round of sj's just looks like a much more difficult issue

We will get over it.......fingers crossed
