well today started with me learning something new, apparently 4 has an AM!!
left the yard at 6 and managed to get there at 8 so i had time to walk the course. thought it looked quite nice and fairly good for a first run of the season.
had dressage at 1030 so started warming up at 10 and he was going nicely, did test and it i thought it went quite nicely, but could have been better. was pleased to get 34!
then things started to go down hill...
in the sj he had 3 down. one of them i accpet the blame for, i got him to close but the other 2 he was totally lazy. also got 4 time but did seem quite tight for most and he spent most of his time spooking at the arena party so not going forwards
on to the xc, he jumped the first fence hidiously as he was spooking at something in the hedge so only saw the fence at the last second and banked it. after that he was great at all the other fences but again was a complete a*se between as he was spooking at everything. he then came round to the water and where it goes slightly under trees he was unbeleivebly spooky and i could not for the life of me get him to concentrate on the fence and he almost ran straight into it so no chance of jumping it!
finished the rest of the course fine albeit spooking at things.
his spooking is getting beyond a joke, he never looks at a fence no matter how big/ scary or techinical it is but he is a nightmare inbetween fences ,and i can honestly say that he has never had 20 pens for saying no to a fence it only ever because he has done something unbelievebly silly beforehand. i think we probably will have time faults as he wasnt really going forwards because of the spooking.
hmph. i brought some sheepskin cheekpieces after the xc round to see if they will do anything. im not making excuses but he was probably spooking alot as tweseldown is like heath land and he is always very spooky to hack. hes normally spooky but not this bad.
we are entered for our first novice at somerly and will decided wether to go after moreton. he does find PN easy and he is genuinly better when it is bigger and i hope that something bigger will keep him concentrating, i think concentration is probably the heart of the problem as when you challange him he knuckles down and rises to the challange with no stupidities!
thanks for reading and if any1 has any tips for spooking please tell me!! we are of to moreton next and he is normally better behaved there so i hope he will redeme himself!
