Twig my 4yo ex racer has been off for a few weeks due to unfortunately throwing a splint so have not been able to progress over recent weeks as much as we would like. However she is now sound and back continuing her education! She went for her first party today which involved us boxing her up and hiring a local arena. Twiggys only experience of travelling so far has involved moving homes so this was a bit of a milestone really! She was absolutely fab. A little sweaty when we arrived so took a while to have a graze and a chill out and then we got on her in the school complete with whiteboards which we dont have at home! Let her have a bit of a trot and canter round on a looshish rein, I few humps, squeals and small buck but nothing major

and after a bit of that she suddenly decided 'oh. This isnt all that exciting actually' and did some very nice trot work so we called it a day. The arena is set in a large field so we did 15mins on a loose rein in walk to have a nosey round and then I think she was suprised to find that she returned to the same home! Next week i aim to have a small group lesson there and all going well her first dressage.

Very proud of her (and of me as I was slightly nervous not knowing how she would react!!!) Anyway, sorry for the self indulgent post just very pleased with my baby!

Aaaah well done, it is nerve racking to how they are gonna re-act but that sounds good, fingers crossed for my ex-racer tomorrow jumping indoor for first time.

Your post made me smile - i had an ex-racer called Twiggy!! (unfortunately she is no longer with me - i lost her last year to grass sickness) so pleased for you - well done you deserve to be proud!!

eek! Is scary doing new things sometimes but as i had imagined the worst today i was so much more pleased when it went well! What is your horses history? I bought twiggy in november looking like a coathanger as a 3yo (she had been in training but never raced competitively), she is my first full tb and i must admit i am smitten with them! As much as she can be a nervy bag sometimes when she trusts you about something she's an angel, I actually managed to wash her tail yesterday with no fuss whatsoever, when she arrived in nov you couldnt get anywhere near her back end without her attempting to kick ten bells of s*** out of you! very rewarding!

Well done you - she obvs trusts you which is bril! Have one 8 yr old - only won one race, had three years - first year was at A&E alot!! (when he hit grass he was off!) but he is starting to jump and enjoying it now. Looks more like a warmblood as chunky? He is, however, crap in traffic (double barrelled a bus once!)

The other is 7 yrs and won two races, like a rake when he came last July - now put on 180kg and loads better - but has sore back at mo

- vet out on Weds to take a look. He had evented before I had him, very sensative horse, taken me hunting (which was brill!) But he is for sale as can't cope with another Winter and two horses again.
