Ryu was shod on Friday morning, we hacked out saturday afternoon, unfortunately he did a buckey twisty in the air type thing when I asked him to canter then when I pushed him on he broke down so I pulled up and got off and promptly freaked out! At first I thought he'd kicked himself he was very lame but then my friend pointed out his twisted shoe, phew. So I walked him home and got the shoe off with a bit of a fight. He was lame yesterday morning walking to the field and sensitive on the stones, farrier was supposed to come last night but didn't

so I hot polticed incase anything came out as Ryu is not usually so sensitive to a lost shoe and thats why I'm worried, his legs are fine no heat or swelling but wondered if its possble hes twisted or pulled something lower, really hoping he'll get the shoe on tonight and make a miraculous recovery, Sue the eventer said thank god it wasn't serious because she couldn't cope with me and my overdramatic horse lol

BTW the poultice was clear but put another on for today while hes out altho it will be a soggy mess by now.

Similar thing happened to a friend, horse ended up with an absess. However it was because she was twisting and pulling at the shoe that caused the damage.

a few months ago my sec A had a muzzle on and decided to get it off on a small peice of rent-a-fence and at the same time dragged the fence in to the middle of the field! he was fine BTW just very fat. Bear my dopey horse must have stood on it and got his back shoe caught under it and pulled his shoe over to the side and bent it downwards if that makes sense! god knows how he managed it. it was still on his foot solid so had to wait til the next day for someone to pull it out for me, he was a bit sore i think maybe it pinched his hoof but he was fine a couple of days later.

i have a dumb ass that flick shoes off, no matter how welded on they are by farrier!
IMO i would ONLY hot poulitce on known site of pus as otherwise it just softens up sole. I would suggest you just do a nappy boot, with duct tape without animalix.
The nappy will draw out any cr8p and acts as a very good padding and then also keep sole nice and clean ready for new shoe.
I personnel would always keep him in, as then he can't cause any further damage to hoof (once he rips of tappped boot) and i can keep an eye on soundness and any swellings etc....
