Hey all,

I have a problem when jumping Al. I have noticed that he is now twisting his forelegs and shoulders when going over the jump...he only does this at canter...

i was told by my YO that its because he could be stiff and therefore unable to lift his shoulders???

any thoughts??

thanks, Carrie

Sounds like stiffness, I would get the chiro out and the saddle checked. Then, once you've ruled out any serious problems, probably flatwork and pole or grid work to help with coordination and strength

I have the same problem with my mare although she will only do it if the jump is small anything over 2ft9 and she jumps straight ! She has been all checked out and is fine, one thing which could help you is making a 'V' on the jump and making the point really narrow.

I'd go along with unsing V- poles. Also, do you have lessons? If not it might be worth having a couple of jumping lessons to make sure it's nothing to do with your position, i.e. anticipating the turn too much or not riding straight enough, etc.

Ditto others.Check saddle. Have a lesson and then if needed have physio check horse over.

There could be a physical weakness that could be worked on through suppleness but if the horse doesnt have the ability to do what you are asking or is physically incapabe then you will have to stick to smaller jumps.

he def has the ability, he has jumped well over 1.10 with a mte of mine!

so yes i think i will have a lesson as more often than not its the rider that is causing the problem!

thanks for the help!!
