Hi, I posted a few weeks agao about my two dogs. They bark and lunge on the lead and many of you kindly posted with lots of tips and advice.
I was taking my Lurcher type boy to a dog trainer for one to one sessions and then to his club and I spent a lot of money and although he is good I was not getting the resuts and feeling rather negative.
Well since posting on here, I changed from my dog trainer to a local agility club and took my Lurcher boy along. Well I have been three times now and I have had a break through! We are split into groups and the instuctor who I have had, has taken me and my dog under her wing and is just amazing! My boy is great at the agility and so confident on the equipment but was still barking and lunging at the other dogs on the lead well on day 1. After the day 1 session she spent time with me after the class and basically said I was doing everything right but shown me about correcting him and the timing of the correction. If to early, it was set him off, if to late well it was to late and how to read his body language. I was asking him and not telling him and about the timing of correction. I wont waffle on, but I really have had a break through and he is so much better I only pay £3 a week to go to agility and not only we have having fun we are solving my problem. My instructor said he is a super, super dog and its nice to see a dog that shows natural dog behaviour and not too humanised. He is a lovely friendly, bouncy boy but shows proper dog instinct/behaviour.
It so nice to have someone that wants to help and that really cares without lining there pockets. Back at home out walking he is getting better. I have used what she has taught me with my other dog as she straight away has stopped barking and lunging on the lead :0)
I know I still have a way to go, but I feel I am on the right path now and my dogs are going to be bloody brilliant.
I am so happy, my Lurcher boy when I first got him had loads of issues (was a rescue) the biggest problem was serve seperation anixety and that is all in the past and no longer a problem, it has taken a long time and nothing is instant. I am so proud of him and he is worth all the effort. He is the dog of my dreams and I have learnt so much from him.
I am so proud of both my doggies :0)
