Two passports?!

My friend has decided that instead of paying a £112 fee to have her horses name put on her weatherbys passport (passport only currently has dam and sires names) she's going to purchase a new one from a different passport issuer. Are there massive repercussions in doing this?

Or as an alternative, I've read that you can call BE and tell them that you don't want to pay the above fee but can they use such and such name for the event...is this true?

Or as another alternative, can my friend use the dams name that is on the passport?
 
all horse have to now be microchipped before you can apply for a new passport so if the horse is currently already microchipped and the number is on the other passport she wont be able to get a new one to be honest shed be just aswell paying the money, as if she has to microchip the horse then send away for another passport etc the amount will be close to that of changing the name
 
She doesn't have to name the horse with Weatherbys at all. She should be able to register it with BE with the name of her choice but she should not be allowed to use an already used name (such as her dam) That name that BE use, should be the registered name of the horse for anything else she might like to compete in as it makes a mockery if the horse has different names for different jobs. The best way around this is think carefully which things she wants to do so if BE, I assume at some time she might also need a BSJA and a BD name too, so she needs to think up names and ring each office to see which are available. By elimination, the name that is available with all three should be the one she uses when she registers the horse - and she will just have the original passport overstamped by each discipline as she registers with them. It shouldn't matter too much if she only registers with BE as the other offices, if another has the same name, will probably stick a number behind it.
