Two Socks PTS

What a horrible case, if Socks couldn't feel anything why did he loose so much weight after his hoof fell off? He looked to me like a horse who was in too much pain to eat.
If he had been coping well with his treatment I don't think there's a problem with trying to save him BUT judging by how terrible looked he clearly wasn't coping well with the treatment & should have been put down before he got into such a shocking state.
At least he's not suffering anymore & I hope his owner has learnt a valuable lesson from this.
None of us are perfect but I would never allow an animal in my care to suffer like that.

Holy Sh1t ester!
No wonder she took all the links down!
I stand totally corrected on my first post!
Seems that the only links that were left were the ones that portrayed her in a good light, even the news coverage!

I think the pic dated 27th of Aug where she says she doesn't know what is going on may be the other hoof which has now come off. you can't see that side of it in the other pics but it does look generally swollen.

Basically just massive infection, coming out at the coronet and causing hoof to come off I would imagine.

I'm betting that both of his front hooves were filled with abscesses. Poor pony.

A numpty question.....if both hooves were infected would the 'poison' have gone into his body??? I know its a 'what if' but if it had would this not cause the shutting down of organs? So even if the poor animal had no feeling in his feet he would have been in some pain internally?

God the poor thing, glad he is out of his immense an prolonged misery now!

IF it was a young horse then perhaps i would not begrudge them an attempt to save him. But he was getting on, he had no teeth (fine if he is otherwise healthy as he appeared before they got their hands on him) and then his damned foot falls off?! He should have been put down within hours of this happening, let alone left until the other bloody hoof falls off. What an absolute bunch of idiots to keep him alive all that time. Never mind damaged nerve- the only way that horse would have been free from massive pain would be if it was dead.

RIP brave little horse- you put up with more than any living thing should ever have to.

I think he would be sore all over, if not in pain. Just keeping the weight off that foot would make his posture, which would make him hurt.

My farrier (who I just saw) said that he'd seen it happen once before, a horse lost two hooves (and was pts) after a seriously bad case of laminitis. Something about the thing that holds the bone disintegrating.
