Many years ago when I was trained (BHS) it was always a big no no to have just two trotting poles in a row as it was suggested that horses May see this as a jump and jump them. I have never used two in a row to this day!!!! However recently I saw this in place.

Is this now old school and no longer considered the case?

I was always taught to use at least 3 trotting poles, or one placing pole in front of a jump. But then, I am definitely old school these days! As far as I know though, horses haven't changed.

I use just two sometimes. Unless you have a very inexperienced horse the chances of them jumping both from a trot are relatively low, and even if they do, they will probably only do it the once. I also can't really get worked up about them jumping two even if they did.

I also never use placing poles.
