We have a lovely shiney new IW 511 which is amazing BUT I'm having a problem tying the haynet up in a sensible place and breastbar height.

It is a HUGE trailer, bigger than an 510 and it's not got anywhere suitable to te the net up.

I can either tie it up to the ring she's tied to, but then it's too far back and hangs down her neck, so she can't eat it easily unless she shuffles backwards or twists her neck round and back. Or I can tie it to the bar which runs across the very front at the top, but then she can't reach it without really stretching (she's quite big, but the trailers bigger!). Ideally it would be tied above the front unloading ramo, but there's nothing there to attatch it to. Where do you tie your haynet?

Shows the problem: This is her almost hard up against the the breastbar - she just can't reach the net if it was tied infront of the window. But the net where it is is really akward for her.

Secondly, the breastbar is just the wrong height. On the top setting it's too high and presses into her neck. But on the lower setting it is really low - only just above where her legs join her chest. The top setting it cuts into her neck, the lower setting I'm worried she could climb over.

This is it on the higher setting but you can see the huge drop it's have to the lower setting.

do the new ones still have those loops at the nose by the viewing window??

i use to put a double of baler twine and tie the net there....

I have the same problem in my 510 - I end up filling up a couple of haynets and tying them in the nose - the fact that there are a couple push them out so that Marnie can reach them! If I put it where yours is, she just can't move her head or get her neck round to eat it.

In our 510 we tie a piece of baler twine from the ring in the breast bar to the ring in the nose. About half way along this we make a loop and attach the hay net to that. Hope that makes sense.

We tie the haynet to the ring right at the front of the trailer and then use a stretchy elasticed bicycle clip thingy to clip it to where the breastbars go. Works a treat.

(Sorry for the very untechnical explanation, cannot for the life of me remember what those things are called)!

think they're calleds bungees. I get you. Seems a bit of a design flaw. I would use the higher breast bar setting but yes, I'd agree it's a bit high on her. How tall is she?

What a good idea - my pony has to really stretch if net tied to the front but it's in his face if tied on the ring next to him - will pinch this idea - thank you

Both good ideas - I'll see which works best. I am thinking about putting a ring in on both side, but it's just so shiney and new right now, I can't bring myself to vandalise it......

She's 16.3hh ish but with very short little legs (17.2hh body, 15.2hh legs). She also has a low set neck, so there isn't much chest space between her legs and the base of her neck.

We spent ages putting it higher then lower, higher than lower, whilst she just looked a bit confused. Eventually settled on higher but I'm not happy with it. Higher or lower?

Personally I would go for higher rather than lower. I don't think IW have really thought out the whole tying up haynets thing. I have an old style 510 which is fine for the big girl but not so great for my tall but skinny warmblood. Once the big girl goes I'm going to treat myself to a Bateson trailer (and never buy a huge horse again!)

I would use the lower bar setting than the one you are using now.

Purely because in an emergency stop, you are going to crush their windpipe and its not over the 'meaty' part of the breast. I would only use the higher setting if frightened they might go over the bar.

That one of the reasons why I bought a Bateson myself, there are 3 height settings for the breast bar and bit at the back! so much better... and also have 2 x tying up points for hay nets at the front... no probs...

with welsh sec's the bars are to high, if you get an electric screw driver you can take then off and put them where you want.

or contact ifor williams an ask for another set and attach in between the two

I had thought about that, but was worried that Marnie would get caught up in whatever I used to tie the net back - I assume that you guys haven't had any problems, so will give it a go!
