Tying stocks?

Sorry if this is a numpty question

but i have just bought an untied stock and have also got a ready-tied stock... here's the problem... i have tried following the intructions of the untied stock but i cannot for the life of me figure out the last step! and the 'ready tied' stock was never really tied in the first place!! Anyone know a good set of intructions? i need help with either

Thats why I ONLY buy ready tied (but not really) ones!!

In addition to tying your stock as shown in the diagram it helps to use a couple of small safety pins to secure the loose ends at an angle which keeps it all in place.

I cheat

and finish at step 2, smooth it down and put on stock pin neatly. It just seems more comfy and I did honestly read somewhere that it is an acceptable way of tying your stock!

I remember this: Right over left, then left over right. This creates a type of granny knot that then requires primping to put it into the correct position.
