I posted yesterday http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=445634 about Jed possibly tying up!

He was stiff yesterday morning, as vet said he may be!

He was turned out all day yesterday and brought in last night as normal. This morning he was horrendous. His offside fore was rather swollen, not extremely hot though, and he didnt want to walk on it. Again after he was out and walking on it he seemed ok - not 100% but no where near as crippled as when he first walked out.

The vet is coming tomorrow morning due to the fact that it is worse first thing when he's been stood all night. If the vet came now they would tell me to stop being so silly there is nothing wrong............As you do i have been doing some research on the internet and found not a lot! Im going to worry now until tomorrow morning.

Any ideas?

If your vet thought he'd tyed up he should have taken bloods to see the levels of whatever they measure (enzymes or something) mine was tested quite often to decide when it was safe to start excercising him again. Did he take blood test ?

You need to keep him warm, cut out any energy feed and only feed fibre

Hi there

Haven't read your original post so forgive me if I repeat something others have mentioned. I had this with my boy about 3 years ago. Got him out for a hack, back was up, not noticeably lame but felt and looked like he was in spasm, so tight he could hardly walk. My local vet at the time who was on call was scared of horses (these things always happen during emergency hours don't they?) Told me to put him on Bute.

Phoned specialist horse vet who came and took bloods. They asked me if his pee was darker than usual (can go almost red) as they suspected tying up. They took bloods which I think either measures lactic acid or uric acid (don't laugh if I have the wrong one, I'm no scientist!). These came back normal, so they then suspected he either got cast for a period of timew in the night but then righted himself, or slipped and fell. Either way they managed to locate a possible injury to his stifle.

Sorry to ramble but I hope this helps
