I know this has been asked before, but...
Background. Wed eve had lesson, no harder than any other lesson. Thursday got new shoes. Friday was not 100% on hack, thought possibly a tight nail, texted farrier. Saturday and Sunday day off as didn't want to agravate if nail the problem. Everything else as normal. Out 7.30am, in 6.30 pm (ish). Out with usual friends in usual fields. Whole gang of 8 broke through fencing into fresh grass both days, but removed when noticed.
Coming in Sunday, all horses had massive hoon about, much galloping, bucking and general naughtiness! Feed same a always, small amount of graze-on (double handful) 200g oats, magnesium and multivits.
Monday am, taken up to other stables to be ridden. Was a little pottery. Guessed the extra grass had not gone down well and suspected laminitis (is good doer cob, watched very carefully and has nets weighed all the time). Kept him in and soaked haylage. Just graze on and supplements at tea time.
Tuesday, farrier came to check shoe, nothing to be seen but readjusted. Checked feet, no signs of laminitis, but kept him in another day just in case. Pony bright, happy, trying to remove door from stables!
Wednesday morning, pony barely able to move. Vet called, all muscles very tense. Given IV bute.
In the evening, Vet visits again, says if she hadn't known history would say had tied up, but given been in 2 days perfectly ok, it does not fit. Give pony more pain killers as very sore. Back out at 7.30am Thurs am, pony worse. Bloods taken, Horse metacam given orally (wont eat bute or danilon).
Bloods are run, and show raised muscle enzymes, kidney function normal. AST normal, CK and LDH of scale. Definately azoturia, no idea why it has happened.
Poor chap is so painful it makes you want to cry.
Now back on iv painkillers plus sedalin am and pm to help him relax. Spending most of his time lying down.
There is a bit of improvement, but its very slow.
Anyone had a similar experience? How long before your horse was able to move reasonably well?
Have been told that as soon as he is able to move normally to pop him out in restricted grazing.
He's on hifi molass free (double handful, as advised by nutritionlist) , magnesium, Vitamin E, salt and his multivit.
Added: Pony worked 5 days a week, working at Novice BD level, hacking 50-60mins at a time, mostly at trot/canter. Is 13.2hh cob. Hacking outs with 16.2hh, so has to jog to keep up. Not a slouch at all, and always underfed than over fed - iyswim.
