Hi. I read on a very old thread on here once that lots of racing yards etc swear by a type of oil added to the horses feed daily to avoid impactions. I can't remember what it was called though and wondered if anyone could help? I'm pretty sure it began with the letter C and it is made from linseed oil and something else? It's not corn oil

Nope, not castor. It was definitely derived from linseed oil. It was called something like carruben, or carron but can't find anything when googling them.

Castor oil is listed as toxic and not reccommended for feeding to horses - although it was thought to be a remedy for colic back in the dim and distant. American racing yards often use mineral oil - it could be the the word you are thinking of in a manufactuerer's name.

Might you be thinking of canola oil? Its another name for corm oil or vegetable oil. All the same thing.

I think canola is the American name for rape seed oil.
