Hi guys

I'm going to start showing my part bred arab - and i have to enter her in open classes so a pelham is needed! She came with some tack but the pelham that she came with is far too narrow

(its jointed- but so narrow i dont see how its hers!)

So - shes working nicely at the moment in a robart mouth french link snaffle - and the extra rein would give me some amount of refinement but i'm confused about all the different types of mouthpieces - 'jointed, mullen , cambridge..... aaggggh!!'

So, someone told me that a jointed one renders the curb chain ineffective? As shes an pb arab (90%) dont they have low rooves of mouths? how will this affect it?

I'm confused - i dont nomally buy bits!

Cheers guys!

Don't forget a lozenge pelham - I'd avoid a single joint in an arab due to the small mouth.

Mullen is slightly curved, which can relieve tongue pressure. The cambridge port is supposed to relieve the tongue, but in reality it doesn't do a lot. The straight bar does act a little more on the tongue than a mullen.

French link is also a choice - however in the smaller mouth they can flop about and a lozenge would be much better.

I used a cambridge mouthpiece on a pony we had a few years ago and he went brilliantly in it,.... current horsey goes well in a jointed one with a lozenge in it... I dont like single joints in any bit (personal choice) and the mullen and straight bars look a bit unforgiving to me (again personal opinion)

Good luck
