OH and I have been house/dog/cat/hen/horse sitting for my parents this week, and we're off to join them this afternoon...

so yesterday morning we went to catch the horses up and shut them away from their teeth. We found a gate (a heavy wooden 5 bar gate) in the middle of the field. thinking it was a bit wierd we put it back where it came from (the barn/field shelter, and had to heave it back onto it's hinges)... By this time the horses had come up to us to see what we were doing.

Shock horror, Tom (the nosiest horse in the world) wasn't in front... he was hanging back like he'd done something he shouldn't have. And his one white sock was red. Covered in cuts and grazes. We think he'd been scratching his hock on the gate (that keeps the horses out from where the trailer is stored) and put his foot through the gate. In his panic he'd lifted the gate off its hinges and dragged it across the field.

somehow he's sound, but understandably sore. He even tried to kick me when I was washing it (very gently) to clean it up. Sods law the guy who's house sitting isnt hugely horsey, but the girl who's riding them for us while we're away is going to come more often and keep it clean etc for me...

why is it always, just as you're going away?

pleased to report that the little terror has not only recovered but was suitably nice to the lad who was house sitting, and Lynney managed to keep it clean and fly free. when we got back at 3am this morning we went to see them and you can't even tell where he'd scraped himself. so all's well that ends well.

Dad is going to try to work out what he can do to stop the gate coming off its hinges again if he tries it again!
