My OH is big into classic cars - his current car is a very cute 1972 MG midget. When the back suspension is a little improved, I will join the insurance on this as a named driver.

I travel around on a motorbike - very fast, very convenient.

However - neither of these vehicles can carry more than two people, or much in the way of luggage. So keeping with a classic/vintage theme in mind, we'd like to buy a 60s/70s landrover of some kind. This would be for the purpose of moving large objects, bicycles, going to muddy horse events, using in wet weather when the convertible or motorbike is not very fun etc. Of course, the other thing is that it would also have the potential to pull a horse trailer (subject to one of us getting a trailer test pass.)

Only trouble is, we've no idea how tricky it would be to insure - OH is 21 and insures the MG through Lancaster (classic car specialist brokers) and I am 19 and insure my motorbike through a specialist motorbike broker. Am also a named driver on a norwich union policy for a little SEAT runaround - have never claimed in 3 years, but it doesn't earn no claims discount. I am presuming that I will have to be a named driver on a policy for a landrover - and OH is still a 'young' driver as it is. Who would touch us for insurance?? any idea on how extortionate it would be? and where can you get additional or included trailer insurance, pref. with horse recovery type cover too.

Is it even possible?

(Or does anyone have a decent nick old landrover they'd like to offload

Try Quinn Direct, they're an Irish company but have been excellent with my insurance, easy to talk to, Uk based etc. Still cost me £700 to insure my 53 reg Disco, I'm 25 now...good luck!!!!
