Had to have a giggle on my way out of the yard this morning when I saw one of the prissy mums at the yard tiptoe-ing her way to the field (up a VERY long VERY muddy track) in her Ugg boots... would've loved to see the state of them when she got back! :p

What makes people think they are suitable footwear around horses anyway?

...never mind the fact that they are soft as butter so if you happen to get stomped on by said furry friend, your feet have had it!

oh gosh, i know someone who wears them around horses, they are sodden and totally stinky, yeuk. i just don't get the appeal, they look hideous and are completely impractical around mud and poo.. also, comfort's all very well but not when they're fugly... see also those horrific crocs!

Ooh makes me cringe. I've got a good bruise on the top of my foot from my mare slipping on the way out of the field and landing on it. Luckily I was wearing suitable footwear, had I been wearing uggs I think a trip to a&e would have been in order.
(Not that I would wear them in any circumstance, yuck. And don't get me started on bloody crocs...)

I'm sure you use leather stuff.......

Friend gets on her high horse about being vegetarian yet she totters around in her Kurt Geigers which are made in Brazil, I'm sure those cows has a peaceful humane death over in that country

Super_Kat the dogs killed for fake Uggs in China are skinned alive and thrown aside still alive. They die a very painful and strung out death. Cows don't.

I wear my Uggs on the yard, just an old pair.. Only when I forget my boots.. Usually when I'm going straight from work to chuck some feed in. I probably look a right idiot in office clothes and Uggs! Just as much of an idiot as the girl that comes in her PJ's! :)

And are real Uggs made from dogs?? If so, I might throw all mine in the bin!!

I worked in an RS last year and it had recently come under new management. I saw pics on facebook of some of the staff and they were allowed to wear tracksuit bottoms with uggs!

god that link about the dogs is sickening, I really hate the human race..

As to OP's originial post, I wear my faux fur cheapy boots from house to yard (all tarmac or block paved) then get changed into proper Tuffa boots in tack room (they have been banned from coming home as they stink too much!). I wouldn't wear them for more than that, as other' s have said they are slippy, would get filthy and have no protection!

^^^ So true. I slipped down some steps a couple of years ago whilst wearing my Uggalikes, and badly twisted my knee, I even thought it was broken for a while. But I didn't learn my lesson, I should have chucked the boots in the bin, because I went out in the snow wearing them, fell flat on my ass and broke both my wrists. Stupid effin things!

:( Those poor, poor animals. Is it too much to ask that they are killed quickly beforehand??

I know I will be generalising, but it seems that alot of Asian cultures do not see this way of treating animals as cruel. Its the same with shark finning, caging bears and torturing other animals in the name of 'medicine.' It seems that there is no empathy whatsoever.

Unfortunately, the only thing we can do is not purchase these products. Ugg boots are for chavs anyway :p

I had no idea about the raccoon dogs :( That is sickening! will definitely think twice about my choice of footwear in the future!

I would never wear my Uggs (British made) in the yard, they were far too expensive! My OH hates me wearing them full stop because apparently they make me walk funny...:D

My daughter knows they aren't suitable but she still wears her worn out, broken pair in the barn, she doesn't care, she certainly wouldn't be seen dead in them in public. If she gets trodden on toes, or wet feet that's her lookout.

As long as there are no rules about footwear then people can wear what the heck they like I guess, perhaps if the lady in question intends to come up more often she'll get herself some more suitable footwear that is still smart ;) I wear a pair of leather barn boots to town and people are always stopping me to say how smart they are and where can they get some? Funnily enough they often blanch a bit when I tell them the dollar price of them though.
