Work split shifts on a Friday and Saturday so pay a friend to walk my dog in the evening. Unfortunately she came off her horse yesterday and ended up in A&E (she's fine just bruised), which means that my dog didn't get done (usually very reliable so not upset with her). The upshot is that he went to the loo on my bed :( I've got a spare duvet so that's fine but can I save my mattress as it's a £450 memory foam and I can't afford to go and get another one at the moment? I could get a cheap one but I have a bad back and the memory foam one is brilliant for this.

So how do you get dog pee out of a mattress? It has a removable cover which is currently washed and on the line but obviously the actual foam is soaked in pee too :(

Oh dear!

I can only speak from experience, I would try renting an proper upholstery cleaner if you can, pick a nice day and stick the mattress outside to dry. As previously mentioned vinegar is brilliant as it neutralises the pee. Rug Doctor do a Urine Eliminator spray, my mum used it after her old dog had an accident and it certainly seemed to do the trick.

If not, I'm afraid it may well be a new mattress! :(

Pets at Home do a spray in a turquoise bottle that wi get rid of it. It breaks down the enzymes and smells very pleasant.
I used it as almost resort after my feral cat peed on my dogs bed. It went through the wash twice, and I could still smell it. Anyhow treated with the spray, let it soak through, leaving it to sit for 15 minutes, then rewashed. Smell had completely gone.
Maybe try treating with a spray like this, and then hire someone to steam clean it?

OK thanks guys, I have washed it with bicarb of soda, vinegar and hydrogen peroxide that I had left over from flushing Olly's abscess but it still stinks :( At the moment I am currently on the pull out futon in the living room - guess I'll be here for a few weeks until I save up for a new mattress!

The name of the spray is 'stain + odour remover'
I quote the packaging...
To remove pet messes - cat spray, hairballs, vomit, urine, faeces. Completely eliminates odours to discourage pets from repeat markings.
The only formula with both Pro-bacteria and enzymes.
Can be used on carpets, upholstery, bedding, clothing.
Please try it.... I have and it got rid of the smell of cat pee as per previous post. Will be cheaper than a new mattress, and it smells very pleasant.
Read the reviews ... 2nd one down is from an owner whos pup peed on their mattress :)
