I went and saw my 6month old foal the other day and boy was he ugly!!

He looked like a part bred donkey!!

Bless him. He is really a part bred welshie. By a section A out of a show pony mare and was cracking as a foalie.
I am keeping everything tightly crossed that my ugly duckling turns into a swan come the spring!
Has anyone else got ugly babies at the moment? Or got a rising 2yr old that has gone through that stage and turned into a beauty?

My chestnut as a two year old was hideous, he was a rescue case and was all ribs and huge donkey ears, but now, wow he is lovely, he grew into himself and a girl at my previous yard even said how she never would have thought such an ugly youngster could turn into such a nice looking horse. He' a git but very good looking

(N it's not pretty sometimes is it... Poor foalie)

One of mine (IDXTB) was lovely until about 6 months then her head (especially ears) just grew and grew, and the rest of her didn't catch up until she was about 3 1/2.
I was totally paranoid that I'd purchased a mule..

. (Especially as when I took delivery of her, fellow liveries laughed when I mentioned the half TB part)

But she's stunning now, and they all had to eat they're words. So rest assured the gangly, gawky phase does go away promise.

I have to say all my colts are very handsome ( Of course I would say that, wouldn't I!?)

However I do have a filly who is now 2 and still hasn't grown into her ears. I worry terribly that she may blow away if there is a strong gust of wind.

On the bright side, dumbo-esque ears might help her jump in the future.

I bought a Freisian X in really poor condition as a 20 month old colt and everyone was saying "what the hell do you want something that looks like a mule for??" He has turned into the most stunning chap ever now, so fingers crossed for your little lad!

What happened to Hansome is as Handsome does? ....my age showing!

One of my three CB mares was a real plain Jane at 3 her head looked too big. After she had grown another 2" she was handsome now at 7 she is a lovely looking horse.

I bred a Welsh D x TB that we actually nicknamed 'Ugly' as a yearling as he rally did look like a cut and shunt job. But he grew out of the fuglies by 3, and now a 6yo he is a really handsome well made, impressive boy.

One of my Trakehner fillies was looking a bit yak like this spring as a yearling - weedy neck and her head looked very strange - and she was a simply stunning foal. But she's maturing nicely and by 18 months is looking far more respectable. This years foal crop all still looking good so far

I bought my v well bred GB Haflinger as a 3 12 year old but if I had seen her at 2 I would have walked away, Ive never seen such plain photos. At 3 1/2 she turned into the prettiest dishy faced haffie I know.

Odd but lovely the way they surprise us!

Isn't there some kind of saying that if you think your 2 year old is really ugly, then keep hold of it because it will turn out to be a stunning adult?!
