Oh no peeps needing advice and good vibes sitting here at home with my hand wrapped up in bandages. Managed to stick a 2 inch Stanley blade into my left hand on friday. later after a panic running around the yard on my own spurting blood everywhere put sensible head on ran it under tap to flush, grabbed horse first aid kit. sprayed with antiseptic covered in gauze wraped in vet wrap for compression and elevated for the drive home (thank goodness my car is automatic). Showed my dad who is a GP sent me to his surgery to the nurse. who cleaned sterri stripped it (to deep for stitches as might be infection that needs to come out) and bandaged. So at the end of this story supposed to be hunting Tuesday on my very strong mare who I only take out in a double bridle. Thinking to put my hand in a surgical glove then in my riding glove what do peeps think ?????

I think you are a true hunter then ;)

Saw someone out on Saturday with ankle boot thingy (modern day cast) and thought, jeez, these people are mental - but in a good way. The OH despairs when I tell him stories like this hehe.

I wish your father was my GP!

A few years ago I nearly severed my thumb at the joint. I cleaned it and dressed it with stuff from the horse medicine cupboard, finishing off with tape on fairly tight to slow the bleeding. Did a good job as it was my right thumb and I am right handed.

My GP was as much good as a chocolate fire guard. Didn't believe it was a mess and when I took the dressing off the bleeding had stopped so she told me to bend it. I told her it would start to bleed if I did and she handed me a tissue. She ended up with shoving the box off tissues under my thumb once I had bent it.

After messing about with it she would not stitch it and wanted me to go see a plastic surgeon. Tough, I was going to be late for the meet.

Like you, my horse is strong so, I put a knot in the curb rein and could use it one handed when necessary.
Thumb was fine, healed well and is no problem.

Too much pampering nowadays!

Horrah it worked dad put a couple more strips on a hefty bandage and managed to get my glove on over the top. Lots of whisky mac, slow gin port and dihidracodein (sp?) numbed it enough to stayout till the end there where only 5 of us and the master left hooray x x

Definately.

Our huntsman broke his collar bone, but still hunted with his arm strapped to his side with a spare stirrup leather!

To OP, hopefully the cut will have sealed itself sufficiently by Tuesday to hold together. I think the surgical glove inside your normal glove idea is a good one though.
