This years UK gradings for Friesian horses takes place on Saturday 18th September, at Vale View Equestrian Centre in Leicestershire.

Lots to see, some of the best Friesians in the UK, riding classes, dressage classes, and plenty of Friesian goodies to buy from both FHAGBI and Tweespan, who have a trade stand at the show.

Super cafe on site too!

Please come along, it will be a great day out for any horse lover. Tickets available on the gate, or pre-ordered through the FHAGBI website.

This year, the UK grading is the "big" one, in that it is the main inspection (Ireland having the private inspection), and it is also the 15th Anniversary of FHAGBI. Next year, the UK grading will probably be a smaller one, as the main grading is held alternate years in England and Ireland.

As it's your anniversary, tell him you want to come to the gradings, or you'll give him hell for the next ten years! LOL.

maiko what do you have??? would love to see piccies :D

I only have the one now, and he is a 4 year old gelding. He is by Maiko 373 out of a Goffert 369 mare. A total hoon, very very loving, VERY sharp (that Tsjerk 328 bloodline coming out!!), and quick to learn. He's fabulous.

He is 16.2 and has just gone bum high again, so no doubt we will see another inch or so from him at the front end before next year!

He is my 2nd Friesian. Lost my old boy to colic. Considering buying a 3rd, but don;t tell my husband!

The man I am getting mine from has a really nice gelding who is just over a year old, and he has 4 others I think, trying to type quietly sorry lol, I wont tell.

LOL! I got my boy from Holland, we had a very nice weekend over there, and I will definitely buy from Holland again if (when!) I get another.

i would love a mare friesian that would be so cool. the one that got me started on the breed was a mare in ireland she was lovely we clicked straight away. wow i miss her but she was smaller than paddy.

If you come to the gradings, you can see the top Friesian mare in the UK, Femma, who was the first mare to be awarded Model status in the UK.

Absolutely awesome horse, a real beauty.

She got her Model status the year i took my mare along. Absolutely beautiful horse.

Guess we know who's getting "best in show"

i think they are all amazing.

Do your horses have any white on them at all??

i am sure if i took paddy along it would be Hans Christian Anderson all over again bu you wait one day he will be a swan lol!!

i know this sounds silly but what does it mean when they are graded??
i thought they had already been done i have a percentage on paddys friesian papers???

sorry

My lad has no white on him at all. There are very small white marks allowed by the KFPS, but they are very strict on the size and position of them.

Re. the gradings, have a look here http://www.fhagbi.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10&Itemid=12 and here http://www.fhagbi.co.uk/images/stories/PDF_documents/beginners_guide_to_standards_gradings.pdf

The percentage on your horses breed papers does not refer to a grading. If he has been graded, it will say so towards the left hand side of the registration paper, next to a year date (and will say something like, for example "2009: 1st (or 2nd, or 3rd) Premie", or "2009: niet geprimeerd" if the horse received no premie.). It's hugely complex! I could spend hours explaining it all. The above articles are very good.

oooooh how exciting i will have to go and check paddys papers and see if they say anything. he did have a small white spot by his elbow but that seems to have vanished . I have to say i am not fussed i think he is perfect :o i know sad lol.
