Hi There,

Im new on this forum so apologies if this has already been covered. Im looking to go on my very first riding holiday in early 2013 and Im unsure as to where in the UK I should go and if anyone could recommend and centres or companies? There would be 5-6 of us looking to go on a 1-2 night riding holiday. We wouldn't be bringing our own horses. I know of a company called free rein in Wales that run weekends but not sure if they're any good.

Alternatively we would also considering independently hiring a cottage for a long weekend and doing all day rides.

If anyone can provide any advice or recommendations that would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,
Laura

I had a 3-day holiday with FreeRein a few years ago and it was great. Very well organised - the routes all worked, the maps were clear and the overnight arrangements all satisfactory. The horses are Welsh Cobs, fit, keen and mannerly. You need to be reasonably riding-fit to cope, as it is about 6 hours in the saddle each day. We did the unescorted tour so you also need to be able to cope with handling the horses.

If you don't want to spent so much of each day in the saddle, then there are lots of alternatives. We also went to a lovely place on Exmoor that did 2-3 hour hacks each morning and left the afternoons free for exploring the area. Amazing hacking on Exmoor.
