Hi all,
Like the weirdo I am all my great ideas come at like 1am lol

I'm considering on opening a business selling horse rugs, head collars, boots, maybe numnahs and matchy tack?- We'll see. I'm looking to see what manufacturers are available. I've reached out to one but don't want to get my hopes up.

Thank you all

Good luck with your business venture and I hope you find one.
My husband has a business selling equestrian items, that he started when affordable products on the market were either poorly designed and/or poor quality, to plug a gap and stop me moaning lol.
He couldn't find any British manufacturers and now uses a lovely company in India. Who charge a not very cheap price but do a very good job of producing quality items.

Nice! May I ask who the company is? I'm still currently just planning everything but just curious and to see other options!

There are so many people doing this the competition is fierce. Second hand buy and sell is much easier and less hassle. Look for/ask for joblots. Plus fast fashion in the horse world is a horrendous waste.

I'm not sure British manufactured products are cost effective when compared to overseas producers. Look at all the major companies who have moved their manufacturing abroad as they expanded. It's a lovely idea but tends to be either niche products or expensive ones

Eg Ariat, Horseware, even the quintessentially Australian Ugg boots are now made in China

You need to be all over Facebook, suss out the competition online, your local tackshops etc. There are indeed a lot of people have got into this, witness the spamming of the groups I run with live online auctions for horse stuff.

And no, it's very unlikely that anyone will hand over their suppliers. You'll need to Google, and Google some more, look at labels, follow everyone relevant on social media, and understand manufacturing, importing (customs is SO much fun), consumer law (of course) and so much more.

It's possible, but you face stiff competition and complicated supply lines, with overseas supply hit hard with Brexit and shipping/container issues.

Don't do it unless you have an amazing idea nobody else has.

It is a pretty saturated market. What will you be doing different to others already doing this?
