I was talking to the vet last night .
Gastroguard is coming off licence that means others companies will be able to produce their own version .
The first off the blocks is Norbrook with Peptizole .
Hopefully this will begin to reduce the eye watering cost of treatment .
Just posted this in case any one doing a search sees it .
So they can check with their vet they getting the best value .
 
My boy started on Peptizole yesterday and it is a lot cheaper. Although gastroguard have had to bring their price down in order to compete it is still £100 a month more expensive. The other point to note is that each tube of Peptizole treats up to 700kg of horse whereas I believe gastroguard only goes up to 550kg? My boy is a chunky cob and weighs 650kg so the peptizole was the best option for him

I saw this the other day. Great to see some affordable options coming through.
 
really? thanks for this as our boy still needs the odd box or two in the cubboard as wet grass and stressy situations unset its stomach
 
Great news. My boy is being rescoped on tues after 2 months on full dose, so hopefully if he does need a maintainance dose I will be able to afford it when the insurance runs out!
 
I thought it was 2015 (March)? but yes other companies will be able to compete and should be an awful lot cheaper.
 
Viovet have Peptizole at £138 for 7 syringes. You can get Gastrogard online for £152 so not much cheaper at the moment.
 
I put a post on here earlier about Equine Science GastroPlus, a natural product for the treatment of ulcers. Can't believe the difference it has made to my mare. If anyone is looking for an alternative treatment which won't break the bank I can't recommend this product highly enough.

Are you aware that there are rules about advertising your product on this forum? i.e.; You're not allowed to...
Incidentally, I have a horse with ulcers. He lives out 24/7 and his diet/lifestyle is entirely natural.

I buy my ulcer meds online from the USA- its called AbPrazole and comes in sachets of little blue granules- easy to add to a feed. MUCH cheaper than gastroguard etc. but uses the same drug (omeprazole)

My vets were very impressed and looked to stock it but at the time were not allowed due to the gastroguard thing.

What you are doing is illegal and the reason your vets cannot get it is because it is not licensed over here hence why it is illegal to import it. Just a word of caution you may think you are buying from the states you are not it is manufactured and sold from india(look at the delivery small print on the website) . It is just as illegal in the states to use.
 
I have too just been told of Peptizole, due to the difference in weight that one syringe will treat it is a fair amount cheaper. Hopefully other companies will drive the price down, mine only needs to be on a maintenance dose now so should get 4 days out of this one.

Mine lives out now but im pretty sure the change in season has upset his stomach, im just going to have to keep an eye on it and put him on it everytime i notice a difference. He always tells me when im doing his girth up x

ours goes on a quarter of a tube a day for a week.if there is rainy weather or a flush of grass.
