Tacking up today I noticed my horse had her tongue sticking out of right side of her mouth. Investigation showed an ulcer on the right side of her tongue - bottom half of her tongue but on side not tip. She's normally in a drop noseband with an eggbutt neue Schule snaffle. The bit was nowhere near the sore but noseband closed resulted in tongue poking out. I swapped her bridle to a cavesson and loose ring snaffle and she seemed fine (no pokey out tongue etc). I've washed the sore and got some bonjela on it (which she seemed to like). Any ideas of cause? It doesn't seem to bother her much, she's eating normally. It looks like she's bitten her tongue and it's gone sore. I'll wash and keep using the bonjela and keep an eye on it. Is it likely to be tack, her teeth were done about 6 weeks ago, or has she bitten it? She was head tossing a bit on a hack on Wednesday (bad flies) - could she have done it then? I'm not worried about the sore itself but do need to make sure it doesn't happen again.
