Minefield!

I’m currently treating my horse with abler abguard, seems to be working, she’s now on 1/2 does and I’m going to talk to the vet today about keeping her on 1/4 does for an extra month or so as coming into winter their routine is going to change and won’t have the same amount of turnout.

But, when she comes off the omeprozol what do you all suggest for support to prevent them returning?
Current feed twice daily
Topspec senior lite balancer 1 mug
topspec ulcakind 1 mug
1/4 scoop dengie happy tummy
Flaxoil
Cider vinegar
Protein gut balancer

Ad-lib hay overnight and turned out during the day.
She’s looking amazing so happy enough with the feed just looking for something to support her stomach a bit more

Thanks

I would use aloe vera, it has been clinically tested for ulcers and it works and it's £8 a litre delivered on Amazon Prime for 40 days supply.

Does your vet talk to you openly about Abler? Do they know it's illegal?

I wouldn't add vinegar to an acid stomach, myself.

I give my cob (ulcer prone) a scoop of limestone flour in every feed - after research I found out it works as an ant-acid so helps with the excess acid in his stomach. 18 months now and so far so good.

His management is slightly different to yours though. He is out 24/7 in rotated paddocks with adlib hay most of the year. 2 small feeds a day. I also give him a scoop of chaff with some limestone flour in before exercise.

Most supplements are a mix containing one or more of calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and dicalcium phosphate. All of those are cheap as chips in 25kg sacks, so you could mix your own.

DL how big a scoop do you use?

Of the top of my head I'm not sure. I'll have a look when I feed later. Its quite large as supplement scoops go. But if I feed it before exercise he doesn't get it again in the evening if that makes sense.
It seems to work for him anyway.
