Ulcerated Tongue?

One of our horses has developed a sore and ulcerated tongue. It is mainly on one side.

I have never seen this before, and was wondering if anyone had experienced this before, and if so how was it treated and what was it caused by?

None of the other three in the field have a sore tongue. Horse that does occasionally windsucks after feed times and is fed a high fibre diet.

Any ideas?

Is the area in question on the side but front of the tongue??

We commonly see these at this time of year on one or both sides of the tongue and they are termed "grazing ulcers". As grazing gets shorter (not the case now with the rain and sun we've been having!!) the horses rub the tip of the tongue and get ulcerated areas on the tongue that often have white edges where the skin thickens.

It doesn't always correlate that horse that have them are on short grass - and some get them and some don't. They don't seem to bother them and I've never found a successful way to treat them...other than altering management

May not be that at all of course!!!
