Ulcers and treatment

I suspect that my horse may have ulcers he has had ALOT of insurance claims and at nearly 18 I'm not sure if my insurance (which I am not going to renew) will pay to have him scoped. Will vets prescribe treatment without scoping?

As long as he doesn't have an exclusion for gastrointestinal disorders, then there's no reason why insurance won't pay.
Depends on your vet as to whether they'd prescribe treatment without scoping, but the treatment (Gastrogard) is very expensive (something in the region of £200 a week)

As treatment is so expensive some insurance companies won't pay for it unless they are scoped and prove they need it

Know how you feel!!!! my horse got ulcers its cost me dearly, got the gastroguard for £160 per week for 4 weeks and antespin £140
for the month and anti biotics £75 and she has not responded at all to the treatment!!! If anything she went worse! grumpy attacking and colic.
Thanks to someone on the forum i have taken her off all these drugs and have paid £200 for a months supply of a powder for ulcers made by equine science, they were amazing!!!! and its working for my horse well worth you looking into this if your insurance doesnt
cover. but i would look into it anyway!!!! Ido have gastroguard and antespin lots left if they are any use to you? xxxxxxxx

My horse has just been scoped and has excessive grade 1 and 2 ulcers, poor boy. I have a prescription for 30 tubes of gastrogard but ideally would want more for maintenance. PM me how much if you want rid? Any ideas on maintenance products once he is clear? Thanks
