Hi!
My mare started to hate being saddled up, started to kick, couldn't touch her girth area.
Had her scoped by a specialist.. She has some bleeding ulcers on the entrance to her stomach (apparently very rare and unusual specially in a native) Mind, she has the best life, out during the day, stabled at night with plenty of hay (never goes without) , and is fed a high fibre diet (some fast fibre) as would live on air!
Specialist wants to treat the ulcers (not seriously bad but not very nice apparently) to see if this is the problem..

She is on a course of gastroguard and then being re scoped.
She has been on Gastroguard for 4 days now, and there is no difference at all.. Been keeping a diary and there is simply no change :(
I have been told i should see a slight difference in 5 days if the ulcers are the problem.
The specialist wants me to attempt girthing her up on Wednesday, to see if there is any change, I just can't see it happening.

Any success stories with gastroguard? How long until improvements be seen?

The next place we are going to look is the back, and have that x-rayed!
Huge thanks

I wouldn't worry yet. When mine was on GG I expected/wanted to see a difference instantaneously ;) and it can take some time depending on the horse - could be over a week maybe two. Also if she has been in pain for awhile you may not see a difference in girthing up immediately because she will associate it with pain. I spent a lot lot of time getting mine comfortable again getting tacked up and indeed being ridden.

Don't panic yet! :)
