Well i have a horse who will be getting scoped soon to see if he has ulcers!

Was just woundering if i could here your experience's with ulcers. What was your horses symptoms, how bad was they, how did you treat, then maintain?

thanks in advance

A friend's horse had them last year. Mare lost a little weight, was grumpy particularly when being groomed. Apart from that no signs. She was put on medication, think it was called gastroguard or something like that? Ulcers were small and she's find again now.

She'd been on a field on her own and friend thinks they were brought on by her getting stressed?

Good luck!

I had a filly that had ulcers quite badly. she was a 4yr old when all this happened, newforest pony. I had her since birth and she was regularly wormed.

Her symptoms all started after she got laminitis.. (caused from the farmer spreading muck all over her field while I was on holiday and not lettin the people looking after her know to move her!!!)

She was crippled with laminitis.. and had frequent relapses.. then started colicing.. she would colic 3 times a day.. only mildly..but enough to say my tummy hurts and i'm in not gettin up.

She had blood tests, frequent stomach tubing - got a different vet to look at her and they recommended scoping her. They found lots of ulcers! and biopsied some gut and found inflammatory responses in her guts too.. at both ends!!

So she was put onto omeprazole (gastroguard/omoguard) for a very long time... and also prednisolone tablets - which scared the hell out of me.. giving steroids to a laminitic.. but it worked... she never coliced again after she finished treatment nor get laminitis!! - she's 11 now!
