We found out about 6 weeks ago that my horse has some pretty gnarly ulcers. We started him on gastrogard, misoprostol, and sucralfate and he definitely LOOKS healthier and it less irritable while flatting, but when we jump he starts hurting again resulting in slide stops and nervousness. The barn he boards at gives the sucralfate with his large breakfast and dinner... could this be affecting how is lines the stomach and protects the ulcers?

There should be an info sheet that comes in the medication package/box, that will tell you if it should be given on an empty stomach. If there isn’t one, the ask your vet.

Have you found the cause of the ulcers? They could be secondary to pain and the pain could be why he doesnt want to jump.

Why is he having a *large* breakfast and dinner? Can he not have this broken down in to smaller meals?

I was instructed to make a paste and syringe the sucralfate but I asked if I could feed as a top dressing and the vet said that was ok.

So gastrogard then an hour after small feed with sucralfate on.
