hernias- anyone had experience of them in an ADULT horse? do they cause problems and can they be treated with a band(as with foals) if they are small? my just 4 yr old has one about 1 1/2 ins long 1/2 inch wide and less than half inch deep. any experiences read with interest-thanks

Not had one to deal with, as when went to look at a rising three year old filly last year she had one which had not been treated. I came to the conclusion that if the breeder couldn't be bothered/afford to sort it out when she was a foal, then there were probably other things they had skimped on. (plus the filly dished)

Know of a 5/6 year old with one, vets opinion was if its not bothering him to leave well alone. Obviously they need to keep an eye make sure its not swelling etc though
