Ok here is an update on interest in Charlie. I only have the one internet ad up for him right now so I have not been expecting many responses.

I did have a wonderful lady VERY interested in him but she wants to barter. She is a photographer and wants to trade her work for Charlie's value. I am sure that would be a fantastic deal to someone in need of that sort of thing, but that person is just not me sadly.

The home sounds wonderful and she even extended me an invitation to go and check her place out in person which I thought was generous and kind.

I have emailed her to let her know I may be able to extend her payments so perhaps she will get back to me.

Wish me luck!

He is so great! I just wish he was a bit bigger or I could be in a position to keep him and get a bigger one as well. We can't have it all I suppose

Well we have just spoken again and she likes the payment option I came up with. half up front and 6 moths to pay off the rest! lol

Not bad in my opinion consdering I am only asking $500 for the poor beast !

What is important to me is the right home not the money though. She has a 4 yr old daughter who needs a pony and a 7 yr old gelding that needs a friend. Sounds about perfect to me.

Well done for considering the home he is going to first instead of the money. I know money is important but you will feel loads better in yourself knowing he will have a good home!

Ok...she is coming tomorrow to try him out with her husband and daughter. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

I am not sure how they managed to get me to do this, but they have asked me if they could put down $100 and pay $100 per month for the balance. I agreed

We will just have to see how it goes when they come tomorrow.

No need to take all the "hem hawing" seriously until they try the pony and show me the cash

I personally would have to worry if they cant afford to buy a horse, can they afford to keep one and what about vet bills etc..

I had massive problems with doing something similar in the past with a horse and lost lots of money.

my friend sold her riding club gelding 50% up front 50% later, took her 18 months to get the rest, as they said they didnt have the cash. she managed to get it out of them in dribs and drabs and never really saw the benefit of the money

That thought had crossed my mind too , but then I thought... I live on a budget too ,
as I am sure that many of us do. I do not always have an extra $500 cash lying around(prob beacause of all my animals

), but I do always make sure my animals have everything they need. Vets can be paid by credit card or they bill you. I have a good feeling about the family and they sound responsible . I am just going to have to wait until they come today to make my final decision....as will they

I just hate this whole process anyhow!

You knw what I just got to thinking.......

How is a person that makes payments on a horse any less able to care for them than a person seeking to loan a horse?

I assume most people seeking to loan a horse cannot come up with cash up front to buy the animal but I am sure that many many of them provide top notch care.

Just a thought to ponder and it is making me feel a bit better with my doubts to say the least! LOL

That being said....I have ALWAYS been a firm beleiver in the idea of " The true and largest cost of a horse has nothing to do with what you pay for it"

so so true

Well they are local so I suppose I would have to take my chances.
They sound like a good and caring family that live very near me so I will have to judge them upon arrival today.
I am far more concerned with observing them to see if the home would be ideal rather than worry about ever getting another payment from them.

They will be bringing their daughter too so I will be able to meet the whole family.

I think I am a fairly good judge of Character so we shall see.
They have also extended me an invite to come and see their home and where Charlie would live. I thought that seemed promising and I think I may just do that if they like him and decide they want him.

I think I would be able to tell what kind of owners they are by just seeing the horses they have now and how they are kept.

What I think I would be more worried about is getting a full payment and having Charlie go far away . Then I really would not know what heppens to him

I suppose selling a beloved horse/pony is a risk and gamble we all face in some form.
Comes with the territory
