For a wonderful little Sec D that we loaned for a few weeks, until 18yo owner had a hissy fit at us changing him to tack that didn't press on his spine, and demanded him back or we buy him for £1400. She'd had him for 5 weeks.

He is currently 3 yrs 6 months

We offered £850, she declined, ranted about us online, then sold him on for £850 2 weeks later.

Just seen on HorseMart that he's been sold on AGAIN for £950

Poor bloody horse with all that moving and upset, and he's only a baba! Makes me so mad!

I thought my girlie had it bad with 6 known owners in 5 years let alone 5 in 9 months! Poor lad

Can top those above.

Mine had 8 owners in 12 months - if I had known that at the time I probably wouldn't have been number 9!

He was significantly older though its always worse when they are so young

Clearly lots of things make you mad - and it made the vendor mad, when you went to buy her horse and told her everything she was doing wrong - hence why she sold to someone else........But I am not necessarily criticising you - and on occassions I have said stuff, and wished that I had not ...... Experience has taught me to shut up - and make a reasonbale offer, and if I win the horse, then I might make a difference to its life (possibly) Lots of horses do change hands frequently until they find their ideal soul mate......there was a recent post about do horses mind changing hands that frequently? I would suggest not, unless there is a downward spiral - think of riding school hacks who have 4-5 different riders a day - now that could be more challenging......

Why is it clear that lots of things make me mad?

Yes I agree I have learnt a hard lesson - shut up until you own the horse ;) - but she was hacking out a 3yo in a saddle that was pressing on his spine (saddlers opinion not mine) for 1-2 hours after schooling in walk trot and 20m canter circles. We took him back to basics and he thrived on it.

Yes riding school horses may have it hard too - I've seen some that haven't seen farrier for 18mths + Let alone vet, dentist etc etc

I've just had a hard time recently and this was just the icing on the cake. He and I bonded like I have with no other horse so far, but hey ho, life is tough for us all :(

I felt sorry for my boy, with five homes in his five years. I still do feel sorry for him actually, he seems to think he'll be off again soon. I do think it's better for them to have stability, especially when they are young.

My sympathies with your hard times - and of course I will shut up (don't know how to do the post icon things - and don't know what they mean either - have just tried - possibly inflamming you even more now?) But you loved the horse, then told the owner everything she had done wrong (based on professional opinion) offered her a lower offer then what she was wanted.......so she sold to someone else. Now why is that so surprising? Maybe you should have offered her asking price, or near too - without criticising and the outcome would have been better?

OP horse is for sale again you bonded it like no other get in there and buy it,this owner may well be open to an offer.
The markets not great at this time of year get the cash together and go for it.

What bothers me is he is such a willing trying soul - at this rate us bloody humans are going to turn him into a project or problem pony, destined to pass from home to home, because he's never had stability during his formative years. 5 homes over 9 months for a 3yo - we should all be ashamed - I'm ashamed in hindsight that I didn't beg steal and borrow enough to buy him for the £1.4k she demanded and therefore secure him a home for life........ :(

Its so sad that the poor mite has had that many owners in such a short time. Referring to a previous comment, not all riding school ponies have it too tough. It's a life that suits some ponies and not others. All the ponies at our local riding school are well looked after and deeply loved. They have ad lib hay, are hard fed, rugged up for the winter and are used for 7 hours a week, not overly used. I know it's not the same in every school, but it's not fair to generalise.
Why has the pony pony had that many owners in such a short space of time??

I certainly was not having a pop at Riding school ponies.......my point was that horses / ponies can adjust. It is a shame about the pony cited in the OP being on the market so many times - which sort of hints at a problem (sadly)

But you can buy him now for £950? So why don't you? He sounds like a bargain!

Make an offer of 850 again and see what happens... I totally agree it is sad to have been passed around so much (and I don't particularly approve of horses doing much at all before they are 4) but its surely a bonus for you that the horse you bonded with is up for sale again!

Riding school horses don't move house and completely change their grooms every time they have a new rider though..... And they aren't generally 3yo going through the time in their life when they need the most consistent handling.....

I feel for the little chap too. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Any chance you can buy him now, OP?

as said above, why not buy him now?
how come he's had so many homes in such a short space of time at such a young age? is he a 'tricky' youngster that people didn't realise until they started to handle him daily or something else?

I agree too - buy him now. Even if you have to pay an extra £100 got to be worth it for a horse you particularly like.

I thought OP said he'd been sold for £950 - not up for sale.

OP if possible find out who the latest owners are and tell them that you'd appreciate first refusal if they ever decide to sell as he'd have a home for life with you and then leave it as that.

If he stays, he's found a good home, if they sell you've done the best you can to secure him a future with you.

Thats a good idea :-) can you find out who the new owners are and ask if they decide he isnt for them that they call you first? Gives you more time to beg borrow and steal if needs be! Hope it all works out :-)

Yes that's correct - he'd been sold on again by the time I saw the advert, otherwise I would have moved heaven and earth to buy him :(
