Hi everyone, long time lurker first time poster.
Just after some advice.

My farrier is never the most reliable and I find it helps if I pay in advance then he will turn up on the day he hase in his diary for. Not this time. Although I understand he has vehicle trouble, he had made no effort at all to let me know this and in the week since my appointment came and went I haven't heard a single dickybird from him. Am I within my rights to request my payment back and find someone else?
Thanks

Is it possible he is ill or even in hospital? Do you know if he is currently out and about shoeing? I wouldn't be too hasty if he is a decent farrier.

Mine failed to appear on appointment day once, he eventually contacted me about 10 days later, his mother had been very unwell and was in hospital dying. It definitely wasn't a made up excuse as her death was announced on local radio. I have no trouble understanding why he didn't bother to text any clients, having also sat next to my own mother in hospital for 2 weeks while she slowly slipped away, last thing I would have given a toss about was any work related matters to be honest.

If he is just being an arse, then yes you have every right to a full refund and find another farrier.

He is just being an arse, which is nothing unusual. I'm sourcing someone else as we speak. Thankyou

Our farrier is often late.
However, he is excellent, very knowledgeable and always available for consultation and advice via text.
I'm happy to put up with lateness for the above: however, I am retired.
When I was working, horse was on full or part livery, so I had cover if I couldn't get there.
If I wasn't able able to, I paid someone else who was.

One of my farrier’s lost it on my horse once. My horse who is a little stiff had some issues lifting his leg, so farrier pushed it right up- horse, obviously in pain, kicked out (not a kicker either, has never even lifted his hoof). Farrier punched my horse, when my horse reared he carried on- then yanked horse back down. I was too scared to stay anything as he was swearing/ throwing things. When he left I promptly booked my poor horse as massage and changed farriers. He hadn’t so much as shouted before then.
change farriers, it’s not worth the hassle
