Hi ive been to a couple of unaff champs (showjumping)
Depending on where your based these might be of interest...
One i highly recomend is the Cricklands Championships(David Broome event centre in south wales) ... www.cricklands.com
They have winter and summer champs.
"Winter League finals" are held in April and "The Championships of Great Britain" are held in August..
everything from 2ft3 - 3ft3 jumping wise but they also have dressage and eventing champs.
Jumping wise you qualify by just jumping a double clear at a normal RC show that has qualifiers...
Ive been 3 times over the last few years and always have a great time... with 85ish in each class (in the summer at least) they are competitive and a bit of a challage but still at a height you comfy at.
Im entered for the April one... love staying away with my horse... its something us unaffiliated lot dont normally get to do! And i think its great value for money... one £85 entry for a single height... say the 2ft9 pays for up to 5 classes over the 3 days (2 championship classes and up to 3 warm up classes) and included in that is a spot for your lorry and pitch for your tent... as well as a stable for up to 3 nights.
Another one ive been to for the last few years is the MIDARC champs (Midland Association of riding clubs)
Thats got classes in dressage, jumping and showing...
details are at: www.midarc.co.uk
They also have an April winter champs... and a summer champs normally held August Bank Holiday weekend.
Both are being held at Rodbaston Collage near Stafford this year...
Thats a nice step up from your normal club show... and is often competitive in all the disaplines...
Jumping wise some of the evening performance classes inc a Puisance and a Midland Masters that they introduced for 2009..
The structure of that one has changed a bit for 2010... but website has/will have details...
Other ones i know of but dont have experience of myself is the All horse magazine and shires champs... (thats one you have to collect points during the year to qualify for the champs i think?) http://www.redpinevents.co.uk/?ah
i'm like you i want somthing to aim for so this year i am going to try and qualify for the trailblazers showjumping, the crickland champs of britain (eventing they do a three day one and to qualify for it you only have to get a double clear in sj they have loads of venues, and for that ride and relax thing for sj nd dressage.
hope to c u at them!!
