So finally got off the yard and out and about today.
grin.gif
Last outing was a jumping lesson mid-November, also the last time we jumped.
crazy.gif
Just some unaff SJ for us today.

Went down to local show centre far too early (always super paranoid about being late!
blush.gif
) but Hopalong was happy to stand on the trailer and munch while I watched some of the earlier classes and mooched about.

Went out to get tacked up and changed into show jacket/riding boots. Went to pull the zip of my gaiter up and "snap"- the actual zipper part (that slides up and down) totaly sheared in half leaving me with no way of zipping it up!
shocked.gif
Bad times!
frown.gif
Think it was maybe the cold that has weakened the metal?
confused.gif

However, the good girl guide in me had a roll of black gaffer tape in my boot so a few wraps of that around and job's a good 'un... from a distance!
wink.gif
Very carefully zipped up the other gaiter and it's zip survived- good times!
smile.gif

Warmed up, kept it quite easy and just popped the upright/spread a couple of times each. 1st class was the 85cm and my "it's unaff, they won't build to height" theory hadn't panned out! Their coursebuilder was def still in BSJA mode and poopies (who has competed at Blair *!) kept muttering about them looking huge, hmph!
tongue.gif

Was far too nervous and did farr too much panicing about strides, got lucky at a couple of fences where I heard a rub but they managed to stay up. My horse is just fabulous and I really doubt I will ever find another who can sort it all out when it's wrong and be so genuine/honest. Jump off went a bit better, we were first to go, took a couple of very tight turns but a chipped in stride at the last fence (I was too slow to kick on after the penultimate one and so we got to the last on a funny 1/2 stride) prob cost us the 2s we lost out on 1st place by. Still very happy with 2nd place.
laugh.gif

Decided to stay and do the 95cm class but if we went clear and the JO was whacked up we would w/d. However, a tiny class of only 4 with us going last and the first 3 all picking up 4 faults meant a nice steady clear round would nab us a red ribbon without needing to worry about the JO!
wink.gif
We actually rode the best round of the day (I tried to focus on breathing, waiting for the fences and not panicing, mostly managed!
tongue.gif
) and managed the clear round with a flier over the last.
grin.gif
So 1st place and Hopalong loved leading the lap of honour!
wink.gif

So pleased with her and hopefully the first class was just rusty rider nerves. Was much more positive and forward in the second class (think maybe the JO in the first calss helped?!) and need to focus on doing this from the start next time!

Mr FigJam in the bad books as he choose to go do something that he wanted to do today, pah!
mad.gif
tongue.gif
So no Mr FigJam photos today I'm afraid.
frown.gif
There was a 'tog there though, so will post a link to them if they're not too embarassing when they go online!
wink.gif

PS- new jumping saddle was brilliant, can't believe I haven't switched to one before, the difference was huge compared to my old GP! Felt much mure secure in the air.
laugh.gif

Oh and whinges of the day;

- Ponies competing in the horse classes! Get up early for your own morning classes!
- Above mentioned ponies with children riders standing along the edge of the warm up area watching/chatting instead of in the holding area.
- Again, above mentioned pony & child standing in front of practice fence, then cutting folk up repeatedly with absolutely no peripheral vision or awareness of others.
- Person at the yard being so lazy parking their lorry squint and not leaving enough room for my trailer when they had plenty room on the other side of them.
mad.gif
Yes, I know my trailer is only wee, but next time I'll call them up to reverse park it in the dark with about 6 inches to spare either side on their own!
mad.gif
(did it though, first time!
grin.gif
)

Bet you were glad to get out! Similar gaiter disaster happened to me except, opposite way, it was on and sheared as I was unzipping and ended out having to get cut out of my gaiters!!

I also feel your pain on the whole warm up arena thing - def pet peave!

Well done on your results!!
smile.gif

Well done on your win & 2nd. Amazing how useful gaffer tape is. I always have a roll in my car.
smirk.gif

Jumping saddles are ace! I love mine but I did get a few funny looks working in for dressage in it today.
tongue.gif

Woo-hoo! Go Team FigJam...well done esp to clever Hopalong
tongue.gif
You probably were a bit rusty in your first round, but sounds like it all came good. If it makes you feel WAY more prepared, I figured out today I haven't jumped in 9 months
shocked.gif

Loving the fact you have black duck-tape in your car. Just imagine what CSI would make off that LOL
grin.gif
Don't mess with Mrs FJ or ELSE
mad.gif
tongue.gif

well done on placings
grin.gif
sounds a good day!

argh, i HATE it when ponies enter horse classes!!! why don't they just enter the correct ones??!!!
mad.gif
makes me rather angry...and i hate people who dont understand warmup ettiquette and just cut everyone up and dont go lefthand to lefthand... argh, RANT lol
smile.gif
xxx

Sea View- oh no, having to cut your lovely gaiters must have been horrid!
frown.gif

Befney- jump saddles do indeed rock! Can't wait to try it out XC.
laugh.gif

n_l_m: cheers! The rosettes are definitely thanks to Hopalong. Gosh, can you imagine how bad my rusty-ness would be with nine months off if that was me after two?!
blush.gif
Hmmm... the box also has lunge lines, chifney (just in case, thankfully never needed!), bailer twine, safety pins, superglue and baby wipes!! All have come in handy at some point...! Just glad it was black duck-tape, not silver, would have looked even more ridiculous!

Yay! Well done to you both! What a star. Mine also got a 1st and 2nd this weekend but we had even less in class than you did!! I think alot of people not back out yet after the big freeze!
So agree with your peeves as well
smirk.gif
grin.gif

Ha ha I actually did once have to use silver tape when the popper on my gaiters went
blush.gif
Not stylish on brown chaps
wink.gif

I hope H got lots of extra carrots for her troubles! Oh and well done to you too; I think I may have implied it was all H's effort, but having seen your rather professional photo-shoot, I'm sure you were involved too
cool.gif

if you like, I'll let you know when I'm going over my first jumps so you can laugh away at us
tongue.gif

What a great start to the season, shame about the gaiter, but a good job you had the tape handy! Just think of the fun you can have chosing a new pair
grin.gif

Really pleased you like your new saddle
smile.gif

In my defence ...I was sitting on very very green baby 5 year old who went to his first ever show on Tuesday and jumped the dizzy heights of 65cm and 75cm.

So when I thought, second outing, need to up the stakes, 85cm, how big can that be? I was rather shocked to see the track.

Hopalong did a lovely round, my baby was too too green and had 4 down! FFS! Off next week for a lesson me thinks!

MandyMoo/DarkHorseB- glad I'm not just being a grumpy old bag and others get annoyed by this stuff too!
wink.gif
DHB- well done on your results!
laugh.gif

AR- onwards maybe, not so sure about the fences getting any bigger just yet though...!
crazy.gif
Got a few lessons planned for the next couple of months though, so hopefully can work on getting the stride right and not panicking. I have made Mr FigJam aware of his rudeness and he must suffer the dressage next weekend as punishment!
tongue.gif

n_l_m: H did indeed get plenty carrots and thoroughly enjoyed her dinner when we got home.
laugh.gif
I'm pretty sure I could put my Granny on H and she'd get a clear round as long as my Granny was able to hold on!
tongue.gif

alwaysbroke: nooo... I don't want to have to break in a new pair! This pair took about a month of walking with straight legs as couldn't bend my knees properly until they'd broken in and sunk down!
mad.gif
Going to need to hunt ebay for bargains... they were £90 when I bought them 2 years ago and they're now up to £125 rrp!!!
shocked.gif
Eeek! (although Mr FigJam must be feeling the guilt for not coming along, he said just buy some!) I'm pleased the saddle is good too, was so worried it wouldn't be right!

Aw cool, I'm going to head to a wee unaff at Ingliston in 2 weeks to get Pads round a course before stepping up the heights - same as you, Nov since we last jumped!

Just a thought re gaiter, OH had a zip replaced on his at the local saddlery, wasnt too expensive and was done in a week.

If you do need to replace a good way to break them in is to do your ironing while wearing them, was told that years ago and do it with long boots and gaiters

Well done!!

Agh! I hate the pony thing as well- actually, I don't mind ponies, I mind competing against children on them! The other day we were SJing, and we were beaten in the senior section by a 14yo on a 14hh- he was under 16, pony was under 14.2hh, why was he in MY section! Or is that sour grapes because my 15.3hh physically can't do the turns he could?

well done! i'd have never managed to even get in the ring if i hadn't jumped at home or anything for 2 months...
wink.gif
tongue.gif
i would love to also go to unafil sjing that has 4 people there....this NEVER happens round here
mad.gif
thats it, i'm moving house
tongue.gif

Well done FJ and Hopalong - we love rosettes and we love red ones best of all
smile.gif
smile.gif
Great report, as always, look forward to the photos although I'm sure they won't be as good as Mr FJ's
tongue.gif

alwaysbroke- yes, I'm going to take them to a saddler and see if they can replace the zip, but have dressage on Sunday and don't think gaffer tape will really complete the "elegant" look?! It was ok as a bodge, but will just have to bite the bullet and splash out. Would be good to get current ones fixed as spare/2nd pair though.
smile.gif
And if I were to wear them while ironing they'd never break in!
wink.gif

NoSurrender- I also don't mind ponies, but when they have a very definite split of classes, it's a bit annoying as you think you'll be mostly competing against adult who tend to have more warm up manners- this point was certainly proved yesterday!

Cheers Nic! Hope your hacking over the weekend was less eventful than last week.

diggerbez- you should move to MandyMoo's part of the world, they have prizes and everything!
wink.gif

Thanks TD. Photos are up now;

1st class, 1st round (plus next two)

1st class JO (plus next two, last one of this lot is awful of me!
blush.gif
)

Hopalong modelling her blue rosette!

2nd class (plus next one)

Now I am, of course, biased, but none of those are as good as Mr FigJam's photos.
frown.gif
He manages to catch us at better "moments" of the jump and better angles, without other jumps in the way etc. (plus I get more photos to start with and can veto the guff!
tongue.gif
)

Adults on ponies tend to be more aware of ettiqette and rules/manners, so I don't mind them at all. Yesterday, the only people were all children on ponies who should have been competing in the morning! I'm sure there are lots of lovely children on ponies with manners and who know warm up rules, but they weren't at SNEC yesterday!
