Does anyone know of any unaffil SJing this weekend that's on anywhere in Oxfordshire?

Don't mind if it's indoor or outdoor, but somewhere with a reasonable sized arena would be good, and a decent surface.

Any suggestions gratefully received, time to bite the bullet and get out there!!

I have just been looking at the Wheatley show schedule actually. I only want to do something like a CR and maybe a 2ft3. Only just getting back into jumping after giving it all up as a bad job due to nerves after Xmas. Lessons are going brilliantly, so want to go somewhere low key and just have fun. Not sure I can cope with jumping on grass yet though, think it might have to be somewhere on a surface!!

Very Very b*tchy show which is so sad as its meant to be for novices but the Pros turn up

last year there was a big kick off as people argued / heckled judges etc

The last time i went i was falsely accused of taking my professionally produced horse in the novice showing

i was threatened , called to the secretarys tent, publicly humiliated and all because someone thought they had seen a bright bay with a blaze at HOYS- WTF?

It was his 3rd show EVER and i had owned him from a foal and broken him in myself- never had help or even a school just the odd lesson from a riding school BHSAI when funds allowed
I offered to return the cup while they verified my identity- luckily my boy is freezemarked so it was very easy to prove i wasnt who they thought i was but the whole thing was horrible and i will never go back to that show again or recommend it to anyone
Only 3 long years of bl**dy hard work (completely on my own the boy did get to HOYS...

Sorry for high-jacking your post.Im hoping to do my first unaffiliated showjumping class at the end of the month. The first one in about 15 years!!!All i have done with horses in that time is hunted. My question is what do i wear?!!(feel a real fool for asking this)Would my hunting kit be ok?It consists of my breaches, long black boots,a hacking jacket, stock shirt and stock.
Any help for an embarrased ,out of touch person appriciated!!!

Well, I will do it in tweed jacket (I had an M&M pony for years so all my stuff is geared towards him!!), black velvet hat, beige breeches, long black boots, and stock. It's only unaffil and as long as it's smart, it shouldn't matter.

Good luck!!!

Youre doing clear round sjing

Ignore them.
Ive not been to Weathley show for years, but it was one I attended every year when I was younger.
Its fine, youre going to do clear round not flipping showing.

Showing can be so bloody bitchy, some ppl really do need to get over themselves in the show ring... cheeky bloody lot!

I got moaned at one year for coming 2nd on a horse in the veteran class. He was 19 so eligable for the class (15 yrs and over) he went beautifully and came 2nd. But the 3rd place whinged because their horse was older than mine... hello!! your horse was badly turned out and part cripple!

well done.

I had a look at the schedule and did consider the veteran class, as she's 15 so just about eligible. Plus I think she looks pretty damn good for a veteran class!!

I might brave it and enter the 2ft too

I have to totally disagree with that in my own experience. If you turn up looking like a pro then yes they should check it out if they "think" someone is cheating. HOWEVER, NOT on the basis that your horse looks like something that has been somewhere!!!! Thats a bit off.

I remember this from last year and they were only doing their job to be fair, how would you feel if someone HAD cheated and they hadnt checked it out? Gutted I would think.

I have been to wheatley since a kid and now have my own child, they are always friendly accommodating, a few years ago I won three cups and no-one was narky unlike some shows.

They have had to reschedule for this year due to meadows being flooded but whilst you have had a bad experience, I wouldnt say its a "bad" show. Just depends who was on duty on the day. You proved your case, and took your cup home.

I also wouldnt say they are bitchy? - maybe you dealt with one character in particular but on the whole they are lovely bunch.

It is a Novice show and if people who have been to HOYS previously on different horse are spotted then surely people will ask questions, even if thats not relevant to current horse.
