So my baby prospective eventer has been working hard on his flatwork over the winter, and is starting to work quite well. I'd like to get him out to some pure dressage over the next few months, to get some test riding practice in before we hit the events (if the weather ever improves of course).

My query - are there unaffiliated Intro classes running in Aberdeenshire? He's ready for Prelim, but if we're going out it's nice to get two classes in... I know a few clubs/places run unaff from Prelim up, but do any run from Intro up? In addition, which unaff comps have the best judges?

Ladyleys RC run unaffiliated dressage alongside the affiliated classes so you get the benefit of being judged by affiliated judges. www.ladyleysridingclub.com

Its usually run on the last weekend of the month. Both Sat and Sun through the summer. Schedule is on the website.

Oooh, the Ladyleys league looks good, especially with affiliated judges - I liked the GDG comps because of that, but they don't run Intro... and being over two days is a great idea.

Hayfield do unaff. at Intro and Prelim once a month. It's mostly school horses, but people from surrounding yards do bring theirs too, especially in the summer.

I think Faraway might be starting their unaffiliated dressage soon, they normally run a monthly one over the summer in their outdoor school. They always have intro walk/trot classes. Very low key normally so nice and relaxed for a first outing!

As others have said Cabin and Ladyleys are the other ones which come to mind. That new place at Milltimber type direction, owned by the Hamiltons (I can never remember the name of it!) also runs regular dressage. Also the yard at Tough, Alford that has the XC course - they also run dressage regularly.
