Hi. I belong to an unaffiliated riding club and we have just had our AGM. As normal, the trophies were handed out for the year to the winners.

There was a big discussion after between members about who won what and how the points were allocated. Does your riding club publish a running total of points throughout the year and would it be unreasonable to ask the committee to see the workings out?

At our RC points are accumulated in every class depending on where you place. 1st = 6 points 2nd = 5 points etc. The scores are put on the website after every show, at the end of the season the person with the most points wins season trophy for that class.

You can see points allocation anytime online, not sure why it would have to be secret? X

It should be transparent. Our RC doesn't actually publish points until the end of the year but we do publish results after every comp., so if any-one wants to got to the bother of working a running total out they could do so.

We have ours as on a spreadsheet on the website. It is also good so people know when they aren't eligible for a class due to the amount of points they have :)

Thanks for your replies. I agree that there is no need for secrecy (especially as the trophy secretary's children won the majority of the trophies!)
I have now offered to help work out the points and have the running totals put up on the website.

Often, though, committee members will be the ones who are at every show/ supporting their children at every show so will amass the most points.

I ran the league for the past 7 years, although I've quit now (freedom!!!!) because I can't face the ingratitude and rudeness of people who don't bother to read the rules. We run it as 8 points for a first, down to 1 point for 8th. For every class. No points are awarded until you're a member, and once you're a member no points are awarded looking back at the shows you did as a non-member (this annoys people!).

The league is published after each show, and my email is put on the website above the link for the league saying any queries please ask.
