My friend lives in a terrace which she can drive her car behind, it is a private lane. She was loading her car up yesterday to go to stay with family and popped back in to go to the loo leaving the car unlocked with her dogs and luggage/presents etc.
When she came back one of her dogs was missing.
Her neighbour is an alcoholic and recently lost her dog (it ran away and has not been found) and my friend suspected she had taken her dog as there hadn't been time for anyone else to get up the lane and disappear with him. She banged on the door and after about 10 minutes the neighbour opened it, my friend asked to go in, she refused at first but then let her swearing and cursing and screaming "now you know what it feels like". My friend couldn't see or hear her dog but gut instinct told her he was there so she got the police involved. Through family contacts they arrived within 20 minutes.
Thank god they did, Harry was found in a box with a plastic bag over his head, covered in blankets and under the bed. He had soiled himself with fear and was trembling from head to foot. He was checked by a vet and found to be unharmed just terribly shocked.
Can you believe anyone would do this to a dog, especially a so called dog lover herself?
The woman was taken into custody but released on bail. She will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
My friend is terrified of what she might do next and doesn't know how she will cope when she has to go back to work next week and leave the dogs.
Please could she and her lovely Springer Spaniel have some vibes to help them through this?

bail?!!! il give her bail....... right over a cliff!!!

GAH some people are just moronic, vindictive and just overall foul!

Im glad she stuck with her gut instinct though! I hope Harry had a better christmas after that and recovers well!

Thanks all, I think she has gone to stay with her daughter now but I know she will be dreading being on her own again.
Harry has perked up a bit today but is sticking to her like glue.

Poor Harry. What an awful ordeal for him and your friend. Such a good job she stuck to her gut instincts and got the police involved to search the house.

Wishing Harry and your friend a swift psychological recovery from these shocking events.

Dear Lord.....I would have stoved her head in....after retrieving my dog that is

she sounds like a mad woman......I would also be very areful in future......do u think she would attempt to get into the house when she is at work

Thanks again, we don't know what she is capable of.
My friend has been in touch with this woman's landlord to see if he knows what has been going on (the house is disgusting) but who knows whether he will care. Her rent is paid by housing benefit so he gets his money.
I can't get hold of her tonight so I am hoping she is holed up safely somewhere but what a way to live.
Cayla, if you had seen how she "cared" for the pup before he ran off...he was rehomed once unofficially but she demanded him back. RSPCA were getting involved but he disappeared.
Someone ought to stove her head in!

Sorry but it does sound like she's a bit derranged and that's a bit scary for your friend .

Huge vibes for the little dog though, I'm sure he will get over it in time.

Isn't it strange how your first gut instinct is so usually right, what a relief that your friend trusted that.

What a nightmare! That poor little dog, I hope he recovers soon. I'm not surprised the womans dog ran off, if indeed it did run off

Much as your friend might not like to I'd be petrified to leave my dogs and would need to make some sort of reconciliation with the nutter before I left them in the house. Maybe go round and say she had no idea she was so upset about losing her dog and offer some support? Sounds mental I know but it might put her mind at rest.
