If a horse owner does not turn up to see their horse for several months where does the land owner stand? The land owners do not wish to kick the owner off as the ponies are great with the kids and they feel that if they kick her off they will just be abandoned again.

She stabled the horses when the land was under a different ownership and was kicked off due to her not turning up.
I used to ride out with her daughter when they did come to the horses and they were always uncontactable.

A few months ago the horses got out onto the roads and they were unable to be contacted then.

I am interested in loaning one of her horses with a veiw to buy as she has mentioned to the yard owner she is planning on selling him and I was going to ask her is she would consdier loaning him out.
The land owners are not horsey at all.
He mentioned that they could pratically be classed as the owners as the owner is not interested and said I may aswell go ahead and ride the horse in question. (I won't do it as they are not the owners and cannot give me the permission).

But could they technicaly have any way in owning the horse because of the owners behaviour?
As I said it is because I want to loan him but I may not be able to get in touch with the owner at all, as the land owners have been trying to contact her for several months and have been unsucessful. She has done this before (doesn't turn up for a few months, is totaly commited for a few weeks, doesn't turn up etc).

So just wondering.

Are the owners local could you go and see them, we had a similar situation on our yard where a horse was left with no one coming to see her, or pay for livery, the yard were still feeding her out of the goodness of their hearts, but her rug was torn to pieces so in the end we managed to find one for her as well. It turned out that the owner had had a baby but had been in hospital seriously ill for months. In the end YO managed to rehome horse to a young lady with downs who will love her to pieces.

Amy - not that I am awear of.

Charlotte yes they are local we get on well as I babysit for them but I am able to go and speak to them about the horses at any time. Yes the horse also has a ripped rug and the owners have just installed brand new post and wire fencing around the horses field.
I am hoping there is no serious reasonw hy she hasn't been turning up but due to the fact it happens all the time and it happend around 4 years ago when they were on the yard (was on old owenership, was chucked off and came back to the yard when the land was under new ownership).
So it is old news hence why no-one is thinking anything is wrong, she will probably turn up for a few weeks if she is finaly contacted by the owners and then interest will wear thin after that and she will stop again.

Glad to hear the horse was reowned and loved in the end Charlotte

Sorry I babysit for the yard owners children not the horse owner, wasn't clear sorry.

Edited to add: Sorry I thought Charlotte asked is the yard owners were local not the horse owners, so I do appologise I read it wrong in the first place hence confusing you with the answer.

I don't know which area they live in, but the yard owners may have more of an idea.
I used to know where the horse owners parents used to live when the horses were on the land the first time around so I could tell the yard owners that to see if they still live there and try get in touch that way.

could you not put an ad in horsemart or another local mag. asking them to contact you regarding there horse. i was in a yard where the owner used to go missing in the end the YO moved horse (she had 3 yards) and tack until either outstanding money was paid. she said she was going to sell the horse and take what was owed to her then give the lady the remainder.
