Does anyone use them ?

Been looking at the Wintec under saddle foam pads. My boy is 26 and although in good health his spin is quite boney now (not bad but just not as covered as his younger neighbours!)so wondered if one of these would be nice for him? Do they change the fit of the saddle or just raise it up and distribute the weight more evenly ?

Anyone got any good advise about them ?

I use a polypad on my 23 year old. I did get the saddle checked with one underneath to make sure it was ok and he is really comfy in it. Before then I used a gel pad but as he got older I felt these were a bit to heavy for his back.

I have a polypad pod which is lovely. Not using it now though since harry cant ever be ridden again

But when I was it was lovely

I would say the wintec riser pads are ok for a short term measure, but they can make you feel like you are sitting on top of the horse and are quite bulky. They certainly lift the front end clear of the withers but the fit of your saddle can be comprimised. I only used one whilst I was waiting for a different saddle and I haven't used it since! Sheepskin half pads are quite nice for the horse's back and polypad's. Gel pads are ok but can move, and ride down and sometimes make the saddle slip. I think it just depends on the horse as to what is best for him. I have heard some good report's from limpet pad user's also but I have not really have mush trouble with saddles so haven't used one.

I did not get on with a limpet pad though I know many people rate them. Didn't seem to be the right shape for my saddle even when trimmed. Didn't stick at all and the saddle slid all over the place. An expensive mistake.

I also didn't like the Limpet ones. Expensive and kept slipping down from gullet and putting pressure on my horses wither. Quite soon after buying it it started to split in half. Should have taken it back but as i bought it from their stand at badminton I never got round to it. I would defo not buy another one!! The wintecs aren't all riser pads - they do a quite slim one that may be suitable. Agree might be best to get a saddler to give it once over. If alls well you get piece of mind and should only cost a call out fee.
