I have noticed that my 4yo mare has worn out her offside hind unequally. The outer section of the shoe is much thinner than the inner section. The other hind shoe shows equal wear. She has a flare on the offside hind and the flare on the hoof is where the shoe is worn out.. Do you think if the flare is addressed by the farrier the uneven wear will be corrected???

if your farrier is a good one then they should be able to help. i agree they might not totaly solve the problem as it could be something else. watch how she moves on the lunge and on the straigh this might show something obvious. also she is a baby so muscles are developing she may just be a bit one sided so correct shooling will help that. if you are still unsure get the vet to give her an MoT so put your mind at rest.

Not saying this is the cause but think about this..
You say its the off hind (right back foot).
Now study the road.
Roads, whether you can see it or not has a camber. The road will slope off to the edge/curb.
So when doing road work the outside of the offside shoe will always hit the ground first and consequently suffer more wear than any other part of the shoe. This can also often show up on the off fore.
Now it does depend on how much road work is asked (and you'll tell me none lol).
But it's food for thought.

I have been doing plenty of road-work over the past 8 weeks to get her fit for hunting... So maybe your right!! I do compete at dressage too and had no comments from instructor/judges about being unlevel/altered gait behind..

Looks a likely cause then. As you say there are no other signs of any other probs the horse is showing and that you have recently done alot of road work.
All our horses do loads of road work and they all slightly wear the outside of the shoe down more than any other part. Its nothing to be really alarmed about.
Though When I see a sharp camber I ride more in the middle of the road (traffic permitting of course) mainly to ease the foot and joints hitting the ground at the same angle persistantly.
