Free of lice, I now have my next problem!!

About a week or so ago I saw a bit of blood on the withers of Calypso, on one of his white patched so quite obvious, but the hair underneath didn't have blood on it and there was no cuts on him, so I thought nothing of it. A few days ago while I was groomign Acer, i saw quite a bit of dried blood on the inside of on of his forelegs by his armpit - first thought was he had lice again and was itching and had made himself bleed, so I had a good look (very hard to see through all the hair!) and again found nothing, no cut and the hair underneath was clean. I also found a bit of blood in the field on the snow, but I can't be sure thats definitely his, it could be from a wild animal. So I thought maybe he had a tick and hes burst it while itching?

I've been very vigilant since then (I groom them everyday but have been looking even closer) and tonight I found a bit of dark red dried blood on some shavings all stuck together with hair between his front legs again.... So I put on a white disposable glove and literally scrubbed him all over in the hope that I would get a bit on the glove and would clearly see it. I can't find anything at all!

Is it possible its from his mouth? Baby teeth etc? I've also had a good feel in his mouth and no blood or wobbly teeth... He's eating fine and is absolutely fine in himself, I'm just at a loss as to where the blood is coming from!

Any ideas!?

Nope not at all - has a very clean nose unless he sneezes then there is some clear snotty stuff as normal - nice I know :o:D

My first thought would be that he is teething and when he chews/itches himself there is a little blood from his teeth/gums being left on the hair

Is he always alone when this happens? Could another horse with nosebleeds/ bad teeth he grooming him? We had this a while ago, grey horse covered in blood but couldn't find an injury, it turned out the old dark bay horse was grooming him with a loose tooth! He was so dark that it was really hard to spot signs on him.

This was my first thought as it was first spotted on Calypso (he is piebald and it was on a white patch so easy to spot) and I thought perhaps Acer had been grooming him and blood was coming from his mouth. I certain that its from Acer, as its been on him more and in places that Calypso wouldn't really go (in between his front legs!)

(Sorry haven't worked out how to multi quote!)

mynutmeg - This is what I'm thinking along the lines of, will it be hurting him? Is there anything I can do to ease it or will it just run its course?

PandorasJar - I pick his feet out twice a day, haven't found anything unusual, no blood - is there anything specific with hooves I should be keeping an eye on?

These are my first real babies (only ever really dealt with 2yo's up!) so what happens with their teeth at 7 months is totally new to me!

Was just a guess as have had a couple of blood injuries on hooves and my grumpy mare who gets itchy uses a hind hoof to scratch where your blood has been found.

If its a loose tooth then it will be a bit irritating like a kid with a loose tooth but shouldn't be massively painful. I would suggest having a dentist check them over at least once every six months as their mouths can change so quickly that they need done that often and any problems can be fixed early (and usually much more easily) plus gets them used to the dentist.
