I had really hoped to crack bf but just don't think I can get the life style he needs I'm at a livery yard so can't do track system and he wears his hinds uneven and is now twisting his foot and is no longer traveling forward I no it's been wet and feet softer than normal but I have some sponsored rides this year and got company to go to some shows and want to have fun on him and all the farm tracks are Stoney around where I am his diet seems fine I'm just struggling and can't/ won't se him struggle and he gets fat if not in work. Shoes been off since June so at least his feet have had a break but I am disappointed

whats he eating and what is his work/turnout like?

does he have any other physical issues? unless his legs are not straight in some way or he travels crooked due to another problem he shouldnt be wearing them *that* unevenly.

post some pics?

hugs xxx

He has a week back leg ( been seen by vet) just a weekness. He on simple systems lucie stalks and high fibre nuts small amounts science supplements 4feet in pm just hay in am he is now out 24 hrs but winter time out t 730 in at 330 he good on roads but the stones he is struggling and this last week with ground rutty and hard I think he feeling them :(

mine has just gone througha really footy period when he had been doing unbelievably well. Diet hadn't changed and workload was the same - I kept him off the grass for a few days and soaked his hay which helped but the biggest difference was having a trimmer come and see us - she didn't ctually trim but we made a few adjustments and I have a much happier horse - I think the weather hasn't helped but also there is far more in the grass than we realise at the moment. I have upped his workload again and he seems to be on a upward curve again

I don't know if I can help or no, but have been making decisions with mine of late (he has been shoeless for 2 years after being lame in shoes) and having recently moved him from home to livery. He is great on road and turf but struggles a bit with our rather stony forest tracks (will try and stay on the edge) which I fine even more noticeable if he is also struggling to keep up with any company we may have (not got the greatest of walks). His main issue is flat soles, although better than when we started and certainly thicker do get a bit sensitive (and for him quite poss caused by his pedal bone construction and the fact he does a fair amount of roadwork - those working mostly in schools are generally more concave). As I have the option to do plenty of my hacking on road and grass byways it is quite easily dealt with though even though I would still like him as good as he can be.

He does wear his fronts unevenly (lands laterally) which prevents him being self-trimming and has a wonky hind foot (is also 21 so has some other stiffnesses ;) ). I do sometimes think stuff it I'll put shoes on but never consider it seriously as I don't think overall it would be good for him.

current plan is to test grazing at new place and poss go back to bespoke minerals
boot in front if planning on including the stony tracks in a ride/with others and trust the boots a bit more
be aware if I do a long hack on a saturday (10-12 miles is usual) he might want to wear boots hacking the next day.
