My 3 yr old arab mare (chestnut to boot) has just been diagnosed with UPD following skin biopsies. As it hasn't regressed by itself she is now on steriods for 35 days. The fun part being that for the first 7 days I have to get 80 tablets a day inside her (I am greatful she is not an ID!) then 60, then 40 etc etc. Has anyone else come across this and is there anything else I could perhaps feed or use to try and minimise / prevent this from coming back should I manage to clear it up with the steriods. She is a very sensative horse anyway, getting sun burn (without sun) and mud fever regulary throughout the year even though she is not turned out in a muddy field.
Any suggestions greatly received

marmite, for getting the tablets in and watch out for laminitus which can occur due to the steroids

unfortunately i can not comment on the upd

fortunately I am lucky and the tablets are going down in a handful of chaff (she will eat ANYTHING). The steriods seem to be working (or is it my imagination) on the smaller ones already.
